RACE 1 – XTREME BULLS TICKETS ON SALE NOW PACE – 2125 metres
MAID OF MONEY NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
PLAYA BLANCA – Post-race swab sample.
KATES VIRTUE – Driver Jim Douglass explained that after contesting the early lead he allowed KATES VIRTUE to progress forward and challenge for the lead on a second occasion approaching the 1800 metres as he felt the speed of the event had eased which he felt was an indication that PLAYA BLANCA, which was leading, may surrender the lead. Mr Douglass further explained that KATES VIRTUE hung in at various stages, however the early use made of KATES VIRTUE told on the mare over the concluding stages.
LENNETH – Hung in under pressure shortly upon straightening.
GREY CADILLAC – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races. These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.
ROCKSIE ROCK – Hung in rounding the final turn before breaking passing the 300 metres when positioned in restricted room to the inside of KATES VIRTUE which had hung in. In view of the circumstances no action was taken with ROCKSIE ROCK.
RACE 2 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 1720 metres
THE COUNTY SHERIFF – Post-race swab sample.
DYNAMITES BEST – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten in excess of 55 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any significant findings. A warning was issued.
SPARKLA – Paced roughly entering the first turn.
ED MENDES – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Hannah Rixon was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding inside the final 500 metres. Ms Rixon explained that approaching the 400 metres she observed SPARKLA, which she was following, appear to commence to shift out and consequently she allowed ED MENDES to progress forward in an attempt to improve to the inside of SPARKLA, however that runner did not fully shift out at that stage which resulted in ED MENDES being disappointed for this inside run. Ms Rixon further explained that shortly after she directed ED MENDES wider to improve into the race and it was apparent passing the 300 metres that PLAY SOUTHERNLAND, which was positioned three wide, was travelling better than LADY DELORIS to its outside and for this reason she elected to follow PLAY SOUTHERNLAND with the anticipation that runner would continue to improve forward and upon straightening she would be able to ease LADY DELORIS wider to secure clear running. Ms Rixon added that immediately upon straightening LADY DELORIS was able to improve forward which prevented her from being able to ease that runner wider and as a consequence ED MENDES remained held up to the finish of the race. Ms Rixon further added that in not electing to improve four and five wide rounding the final turn she did not feel that ED MENDES was in the best form currently and as the race was being run at its fastest during that section it would not be in the horses bests interests to be attempting to make ground when extremely wide rounding the final turn. Upon consideration of all the circumstances, Stewards were satisfied the tactics adopted by Ms Rixon were not entirely unreasonable and took the matter no further.
LITTLE CESSNA – Trainer David Waite was fined $50 under Rule 210 for failing to declare Sebastian Piltz as the driver of the gelding by the prescribed time.
RACE 3 – CAPITAL CORPORATION PACE – 1720 metres
BETTINE – Pre-race blood sample.
VIOLET HANOVER – Driver Will Rixon was questioned regarding the performance of the filly which finished in 9th placing beaten 48 metres ($2.40 fav). Mr Rixon explained that he allowed VIOLET HANOVER to improve forward three wide during the middle stages as the speed of the event during the early stages had been relatively moderate and in his view the filly was somewhat disappointing over the concluding stages albeit the race was run in a relatively fast 1:56:8 seconds. Post-race veterinary examination of VIOLET HANOVER failed to reveal any significant findings. Given the beaten margin (48 metres) a warning was issued.
ADMIRABLE NZ – Post-race swab sample.
RACE 4 – MIDGES HAIR SALON LADYSHIP PACE – 1720 metres
HONOLULU PRINCESS – Broke shortly after the start was affected resulting in HARLEEQUIN and STELLINA being checked. Given the recent poor record of HONOLULU PRINCESS, the filly will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.
HARBOUR SPRINGS – Hung in and contacted marker pegs approaching the 200 metres.
OUR FIRE AND DELIGHT NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Held up inside the final 200 metres.
HARLEEQUIN – Checked shortly after the start when HONOLULU PRINCESS broke gait. Post-race swab sample.

LADY BULLRIDGE – Paced roughly shortly after the start and entering the first turn.
JANELLE MAY – Post-race swab sample.
NELLI TRISTAR – Checked and broke gait passing the 300 metres when FELICIDAD broke gait.
FELICIDAD – Pre-race blood sample. Broke clear of interference passing the 300 metres resulting in STAY STRONG being severely checked and STARLIT RAINBOW and NELLI TRISTAR being checked and breaking gait. FELICIDAD will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Driver Blake Fitzpatrick was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that approaching the 1400 metres he permitted FELICIDAD to shift in tightening STAY STRONG which was checked and paced roughly as a consequence. In not taking more severe action against Mr Fitzpatrick Stewards were mindful of the minimal shift involved and that the racing manners of STAY STRONG had contributed slightly.
STAY STRONG – Hung out passing the 1600 metres. Checked and paced roughly approaching the 1400 metres when FELICIDAD shifted in and STAY STRONG shifted out slightly when steadied. Severely checked passing the 300 metres when FELICIDAD broke gait. Checked approaching the 200 metres when FRANCO LOU hung in against the efforts of its driver.
FRANCO LOU – Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. Hung in at various stages against the efforts of its driver most notably passing the 200 metres where FRANCO LOU hung in resulting in STAY STRONG being checked before then veering in under pressure and tightening FELICIDAD approaching the 100 metres. Trainer Brian Portelli was advised that in view of the recent record of FRANCO LOU the colt will now be stood down from racing for a period of 14 days and until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards on two occasions.
