FACES of the Rising Stars - Mitch Turnbull

It was never in doubt that the youngest of four children that Mitch Turnbull would end up with a career in harness racing.   The son of 2002 Inter Dominion winner Steve Turnbull was born and bred into the industry in 1996 and it wasn’t long after that he started getting his hands dirty around the stables.

In 2012 Mitch left Kelso High to fulfill his passion full-time in hope to one day follow in his Dad’s footsteps.   So far, Mitchell has driven a winner for each of his siblings Nathan, Josh, Amanda and her partner Nathan Jack, and has enjoyed many victories at his home track Bathurst.   In 2014 Mitchell was invited to compete in the Rising Stars Series in which he won the final race on Zenable who had the ninth fastest time for the season, clocking 1:51.1.

Using the prestigious replay of the Inter Dominion when his Dad’s horse Smooth Satin sailed to victory as inspiration, Mitch has ambitions to one day be on the other side of the fence driving in the exact same race.

The Western Districts young talent admits that his biggest influence is his father and he is inspired by his work every day, hoping to one day make and break records around Australasia driving and training horses.
