BANKSTOWN PREVIEW | MICHAEL COURT
NORMALLY it’s Bathurst where the all-conquering Turnbull clan are clocking up win after win.
Yet it’s Bankstown where the Turnbulls could dominate tonight with favoured runners in the first four races, giving them a chance to do a ‘Bathurst at Bankstown’.
The action begins in Race One when useful ‘claimer’ Switowski has the perfect draw in gate one to score an all-the-way win for trainer Steve Turnbull and his capable reinsman-son Mitch.
While he hasn’t won a race since December last year, Switowski continues to be a consistent earner for the team and a repeat of his win at Parkes in June would be all that was required to get the job done here and live up to his $1.80 favouritism.
Another perfect draw in gate one sees Lucky Lyla pick up the Turnbull ‘baton’ in Race Two with trainer Josh enlisting the services of Nathan to steer the consistent mare to another victory.
Listed as a $2.50 favourite in early markets, Lucky Lyla has been a great moneyspinner for her owner, Jessica Turnbull and can add to an imposing record of six wins and 16 placings from just 46 starts.
Then its Amanda Turnbull’s turn to take charge with favourites in each of the next two races as she looks to continue her recent hot form.
With two wins at Young from his past three starts since arriving from New Zealand, Real Dash, a son of American sire Real Desire, may need a dash of luck to get away from the pegs and get into the finish of Race Three, the Bankstown Sunday Markets Pace.
While showing any amount of promise, Real Dash comes up against Kerry McDowell’s improving pacer Prince Syntax, who led, took a trail on Ideal Conquest then finished too strongly for him at Bankstown last start.
If Amanda Turnbull does get beaten there she should be quick to atone in Race Four where she has a double shot at victory with the $1.65 favourite Eye See Diamonds and the talented Pump The Brakes ($11).
Amanda has given punters a great pointer to her chances in taking the drive behind Eye See Diamonds, who resumes from a three-month spell.
The daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven has been prepared for tonight’s assignment with two stylish trial wins at Bathurst in recent weeks and should have little problem adding to her record of 12 wins from 36 starts.
Should Eye See Diamonds put a foot wrong, Amanda’s brother Mitch will be ready to strike with the stablemate Pump The Brakes.
