NSW Two-Year-Old Racing Calendar launched

29 December 2020

HARNESS Racing New South Wales has released the Two-Year-Old Guaranteed Racing Calendar for the first half of 2021.

These guaranteed races are for January to June 2021 only due to the unknowns of the change of racing season to the calendar year.
New South Wales is the only jurisdiction to formally guarantee races for two-year-olds with a minimum number of nominations.
“With the change to the racing season it is unknown how that will affect the racing of two-year-olds especially considering the NSW Breeders Challenge will now be conducted later in the year,” HRNSW Chief Executive John Dumesny said.
“The Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival remains in March therefore it is essential that owners and trainers are provided with opportunities to prepare their horses early and the first guaranteed races commence in mid-January.
“Six original nominations is all that is required to guarantee the two-year-old races on the calendar and these will become a ninth race on the programme if necessary.”
Clubs may apply for additional two-year-old races where they think it is necessary, however, they will not impact the calendar.
The ‘Two-Year-Old Racing Policy’ states that for a race to go ahead there is to be a minimum six horses nominated when the original nominations close.
A further review of the Policy will be undertaken in respect to the minimum number of nominations will be undertaken in due course.
