Send It goes around Treuer
14 June 2021
BRAD Hewitt is a trainer that keeps producing a handy horse from his Goulburn stable despite not having big numbers in his barn.
Hewitt reflects with pride on taking out his first Group 1 feature aboard current stable star Send It, who was strong when capturing the TAB Regional Championships State Final at Tabcorp Park Menangle last month.
The win was the gelding’s ninth, and it took his earnings beyond $176,000 for connections that include Brad’s wife Milly, cousin Blake and mates Cody Medway and Canberra Raiders star Jarrod Croker.
“He has pulled up really well following the Regional Series from which he earned $82,300,” said Hewitt.
“I had to bottom him out a couple of times during the series and to his credit he kept rising to the occasion, I was proud of him thats for sure.”
Send It will be first up this afternoon since winning at Menangle and will take on a smart field in the time-honoured Club Condell Park – MH Treuer Memorial, a $50,000 event that carries Group 2 status.
“He is fresh and ready to go today,” said Hewitt.
“He definitely needed a freshen-up after those hard runs and he has enjoyed the easier two weeks since wining the final.”
Send It sits on the third line of betting for the Treuer Memorial, a race that Hewitt believes will suit his pacer right down to the ground.
“The 2540 metre trip will be to his liking.
“His run in the Young Cup was one of his best efforts after he found trouble a few times in the last lap but still got home late to run third, he was so unlucky in that race.”
Two runs after that, Send It ran fourth in a strong Riverina Championship Final and was beaten by just over a metre behind Wolf Stride.
“He has drawn particularly well this afternoon in barrier four compared to his main rivals Loorrim Lake (eight) and Rubies For Tash (11) so hopefully I can take advantage of that.
“I am fairly confident going into the race.”
After today, provided all goes well, a trip to Queensland is on the agenda for Send It where Hewitt has earmarked The Rising Sun, a $250,000 Group 1 event for three and four year old pacers on July 10.
