Alchin debuts another 'Ultimate' pacer

MENANGLE PARK trainer Jarrod Alchin has established himself as one of the state’s most accomplished mentors of young horses and, in more recent seasons, has combined with prominent owner Scott Whitton and his family who race their horses under the ownership name of Tumby Park.

Most of the horses have “My Ultimate” as a prefix in their names and Tumby Park has purchased well and are now reaping the rewards through the efforts of their talented racing stock.

Alchin will take another of their youngsters to Penrith tonight, namely the well-bred My Ultimate Ronnie, a colt by Bettors Delight and out of the former smart racemare, Gifted Bliss who won 10 races herself and has already produced a winner, her first filly foal which races as Little Bliss.

The Whitton family will be hoping that Our Ulimate Ronnie can do good things on the racetrack as he is named after Scott’s late father Ron, who passed away earlier this year.

“This fellow is a bit of a favourite with the Tumby crew given he is named after Ron, so I can imagine it will be a bit emotional for them when he steps onto the track tonight,” said Alchin.

“He goes along nicely and will get better with racing.

“Gate six is not ideal for his debut but I do rate him as a solid chance after winning a trial at Menangle and then impressing with a fast-finishing third at the Penrith trials last week.”

The colt will need to step up a notch however as his main rival, Smaltese has drawn perfectly in barrier one.

The Brian Portelli-trained and driven colt was placed twice in March before going for a spell and was runner-up in the Sapling Stakes where he was brave when beaten by Mister Rea, which subsequently went on to win the Bathurst Gold Crown.

“My Ultimate Ronnie is just another of the lovely two-year-olds that I train for the Whitton family,” said Alchin.

“Our unbeaten gelding My Ultimate Byron has been back in work for three weeks and will be aimed for the Breeders Challenge.

“And another one that I have a lot of time for is My Ultimate Baxter, who has won at his only two starts in Queensland and is back from a spell to contest next week’s Paleface Adios Classic at Albion Park.”
