Rixon brimming with confidence

POPULAR southern Sydney based reinsman, Will Rixon heads to Penrith tonight brimming with confidence after driving five winners in quick succession.

Last Friday night at Newcastle, Rixon landed a treble of winners in consecutive races and then backed that up with a winning double at Canberra on Monday night.
"I am really enjoying the driving at the moment, especially now that the regions have opened up again,” said Will.
“Being able to travel out of Sydney to tracks like Newcastle, Canberra and Bathurst presents me with more opportunities to gain drives and besides, I love getting out there to catch up with family and friends – that is what makes it more enjoyable.”
Later in the evening on Friday night, the winners came thick and fast for Rixon with a winning double for trainer Rickie Alchin either side of a win  by Dance And Deliver, a two-year-old trained by his father Peter.
Ironically both Alchin’s winners were also two-year-olds who were racing against older horses.
Beefy Benson and Sugar For My Honey both scored by big margins after leading and giving Will armchair rides.
On Monday night Will struck gold in Race 3 at Canberra with the Mark Fletcher-trained Icantsee.
He then backed that up with a heady drive to get Keilor Baby Shark home first for Cowra trainer Col Fliedner.
“I had a great start to the week with a double at Canberra on Monday night and got into the placings in a few other races,” said Rixon.
“I am hoping that the winners keep rolling in for me.”
At Penrith tonight, Rixon has a drive in each of the four regional heats for the NSW Breeders Challenge.
Currently working for Rickie Alchin, Will has two drives for him and the other two heat drives are for his father Peter.
“I am enjoying my time working with Rickie, he is a great horseman, and I am definitely learning more and more each day,” he said.
“Apart from the driving, I have a great interest in the training and breaking-in horses.
“Being at Rickie’s stable gives me that variety.”
Rixon believes that Beefy Benson can make it three from three in the final event tonight and he also has a healthy respect for Dance And Deliver (Race 8).
“They have both drawn wide but were impressive in winning at Newcastle,” said Rixon.
