Record prize incentives as 2022 NSW Breeders Challenge gets underway
5 September 2022
Unprecedented cash bonuses for Blue eligible winners have already been claimed through the opening round of the 2022 New South Wales Breeders Challenge Series.
The lucrative incentive scheme came into force in the first round of Major Series qualifiers held at Dubbo on Friday when three-year-old pacers Shoulda Passed (Blue eligible) and Not To Be Denied were successful in their respective heats.
For the owners of Shoulda Passed, Wayne and Julie Loader, not only did they collect the standard $4,800 share of the prizemoney, they will also receive a boost of $960 as a Blue eligible horse.
Under the Blue boost scheme, every eligible horse receives an additional 20 per cent on top of the owner’s share of the prizemoney wherever they finish in the race. A Blue eligible horse is by a stallion standing in NSW - bred and born in the State.
Friday night was just the start of the action-packed month ahead with more qualifiers for both two and three-year-old pacers to be held across NSW.
These heats will culminate into the $25,000 semi-finals starting at Menangle on 15 – 22 October, before the $150,000 Major Series Finals at the same venue on 29 October.
The NSW Breeders Challenge Series has also been expanded in 2022 with the return of the highly anticipated four-year-old division. It will be complemented by an innovative qualification and barrier draw process.
With speed the key, the four-year-old semi-finals will be held at Menangle on the 15
th
and 22
nd
of October, with the 12 spots for each final to be determined by the fastest mile rates recorded in those qualifiers.
These individual mile rates are vital as connections of the horses with the fastest time will get to select their own barrier draw for the $50,000 finals.
The two and three-year-old finals will have the traditional 10 finalists in each Group 1.
Following the Major Series, the Menangle Country Club Breeders Challenge Blue Finals will take place on 12 November, with the prizemoney for 2022 doubled from last year. A record $100,000 will up for grabs in each of the four finals.
The Regional Series will commence in late November, with finals to be held in Wagga and Newcastle on 9 December.
