Binskin ready for another upset
6 September 2022
HAVING been responsible for a massive upset in the opening event at Club Menangle during the weekend, Darren Binskin hopes to repeat the dose when he returns to the world class venue today.
Binskin trained and drove Tuppence to upstage his rivals in 1:51.2 over 1609 metres, with the son of Lincoln Royal paying $51 on the Tote.
In what was a 'blanket finish', Tuppence scored by a head from Chevron Art, with Always Rockin a head away third.
It was Tuppence's fourth start for Binskin, having finished towards the tail of the field during his previous outings.
"He may have caught punters and his opposition off guard, but it wasn't a surprise for me," Binskin said.
"He didn't have any luck during his first few runs as the races weren't run to suit, but I was happy with the way he went.
"His form in Victoria was solid before he came up here, his track work has been spot on and this time he was able to show something close to his best on Saturday night."
As for his follow up attempt at an upset, Binskin will partner Deanothedinosaur in the first event on the card.
Trained by Tony Bertwistle, Deanothedinosaur has drawn to "give some cheek" from the pole.
Making his debut on June 28, the four-year-old's manners let him down as he finished towards the tail of the field.
Based on that performance Deanothedinosaur is the rank outsider at $101.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, talented trotter Finn Runs Red sits at the head of the market in the following event.
Winner of his last two starts, the former problem child of the Joe and Mary Rando stable is at $3 to complete a hat-trick from the pole.
