TAB Regional Championships – the race series where dreams come true

The TAB Regional Championships has made dreams come true since its inception and the 2023 series is just around the corner.

Heats for this year’s TAB Regional Championships start at the beginning of May and culminate with the $100,000 State TAB Championship Final at Tabcorp Park Menangle on May 27 however February 1 is a key date for decision making by connections.
Another key date is March 1 when horses must be trained in the region where they will contest the Championship.
Held across the major regions of New South Wales, the schedule for heats, consolations and the $100,000 finals are:

Western – Gold Crown Paceway Bathurst

  • Heats - Wednesday 3 May - Distance 2260
  • Final & Consolation - Wednesday 17 May – Distance 2260m

    Riverina – Riverina Paceway Wagga Wagga

  • Heats - Friday 5 May – Distance 2270
  • Final & Consolation – Friday 19 May – Distance 2270m

    Hunter – Newcastle International Paceway

  • Heats - Friday 5 May - Distance 2030
  • Final & Consolation - Friday 19 May - Distance 2030m

Metropolitan – Tabcorp Park Menangle

  • Heats - Tuesday 9 May - Distance 2300
  • Final & Consolation - Saturday 20 May - Distance 2300m

State Final – Tabcorp Park Menangle

  • Final & Consolation – Saturday 27 May 2023 – Distance 2400m
In 2022 the series delivered career-defying moments for many.
It gave Riverina reinsman Jackson Painting his biggest success yet when winning the TAB Regional Championships Riverina Final with Rocknroll Runa.
Trainer Adam Ruggari also tasted his biggest win when taking out the TAB Regional Championships Hunter Final with Far Out Bro.
That pacer was driven by top Sydney reinsman Jack Callaghan who won two Regional Championships within 24 hours, winning the Metropolitan Final with Lets Get Rockin a night later at Menangle.
The TAB Regional Championships State Final also provided trainer Trevor White and driver Peter McRae their most prestigious wins as well when Defiant was successful in the feature.
In 2023 there will be an increase in the heat prizemoney to $15,000 but only one round of heats held. A maximum six heats will be drawn in each region with up to 12 horses to drawn into the heats.
