Blake looking for a home track advantage in Nic Dewar series

Reinsman Blake Micallef will be hoping for a home track advantage in the Nic Dewar Memorial series tonight.

The 24-year-old driver, who was close friends with Dewar before his passing in 2018, is currently second in the series.

Heats were held at Shepparton last Thursday night with Micallef winning a heat and placing third in the other to secure his position.

Victorian driver Grace Bilney also won a heat and is leading the tally.

The series is made up of young drivers from both regional Victoria and NSW.

It honours the late Dewar, who tragically died in a car accident when travelling home to Young after driving at a race meeting in Shepparton and also pushes an important message according to Young Harness Racing Club Secretary Scott Adams.

“The message we are encouraging through this series is to get our young participants not to push themselves when fatigued and drive on the road when they shouldn’t,” said Adams.

“We car pooled all our drivers to Shepparton last week and the Victorian drivers all came up on a mini bus together yesterday so no one is driving alone late at night.”
