Goadsby set to deliver the goods
23 June 2023
HUNTER Valley trainer Aaron Goadsby is a busy man, sharing his time between running his courier business and working with pacers and gallopers at his Whittingham stables, just south of Singleton.
Employing more than 50 drivers for his fleet, it is hard to fathom that the astute horseman not only has time to prepare 14 pacers, but also pre-trains gallopers for trainers in the Hunter region.
“Life is pretty busy for us at the moment,” said Goadsby.
“A normal day for me kicks off at 5am and ends any time after 9pm.
“Apart from the 14 horses that we currently have in training, there are 10 yearlings that have been in and out at different stages of their education and then we dabble in pre-training gallopers.”
You would think that all of that activity would be enough to keep Goadsby on his toes, but he has been contemplating a trip to Queensland with his smart filly Remy Brown for tomorrow night’s Redcliffe Oaks.
“We had earmarked the Oaks for her but felt it would be touch and go for gaining a start in the race and we did not want to risk having to travel up there for the Consolation, so we opted to stay at home,” he said.
Remy Brown is likely to start favourite after drawing ideally in gate one at Newcastle tonight when she takes on older horses in the Thompson Pies Pace (Race 2).
To be driven by Sydney-based reinsman, Josh Gallagher, the former New Zealand three-year-old has performed well since joining Goadsby’s stable earlier in the year.
“We took her up to Tamworth for her first start over here and she galloped out, which was disappointing,” he said.
“But since then, I could not be happier with her form, winning back-to-back races before finishing on stoutly from near last to run second on June 9.”
Vinette is another filly contesting the same race at Newcastle tonight following a last start win at Penrith, ironically driven by Josh Gallagher.
With Gallagher committing to Remy Brown, Aleisha Bond will take the reins behind Vinette, who is trained at Menangle Park by Lizzy Heath.
Goadsby has five runners at tonight’s meeting with his next best winning chance being Cyclone Milly (Race 6), another former New Zealand filly who won two on end at Newcastle in April before mixing her form in five runs since.
