Mr Picker explained that the mare is still somewhat inexperienced and not the cleanest pacer. Mr Picker further added that in his opinion it was doing its best over the concluding stages with applying the rein to the near side and releasing the deafeners. Stewards noted his comments and advised that Stewards would expect the mare to be driven in a consistent manner going forward.
RACE 2 – BATHURST RSL CLUB SOLDIERS SADDLE HEAT 1 – 1730 metres
MY BELLE AND ME – Pre-race sample was taken. Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten a considerable distance. A post-race examination could not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards advised connections that it would be stood down until it can requalify on one occasion.
SIR SIMON – Stewards queried driver J Bigeni in relation to losing the one out one back position prior to entering the home straight on the first occasion. Driver J Bigeni explained that when trailing AALESUND in the early stages was of the opinion that that runner was progressing forward to obtain the lead position and did not want to be left racing without cover. Shortly after that point JOINT VENTURE was able to obtain the position in advance of SIR SIMON with AALESUND being unsuccessful in its endeavour for the lead resulting in SIR SIMON racing in a one out two back position. Stewards noted J Bigeni’s comments.
