Out of position at the start despite the efforts if its driver and in view of the mares recent record it will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. Driver Glenn McElhinney was questioned in regards to the performance of the mare which finished in last placing beaten 62 metres. Mr McElhinney explained ATEGO ADA trotted roughly throughout in contrast to its most recent start at Goulburn on 11 March 2024. A post-race veterinary examination of ATEGO ADA failed to reveal any significant findings. Given the beaten margin ATEGO ADA will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion.

MELPARK MAGIC – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations as the gelding has started in more than 200 races. These examinations did not reveal any significant findings. Driver Cameron Hart was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that approaching the 200 metres he permitted MELPARK MAGIC to shift out marginally, after having already established a position 2 wide, resulting in FOOTTAPPER being checked and breaking gait. Mr Grimson explained that he is of the view THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ races most genuine when able to lead and it was for this reason he endeavoured to maintain the lead when challenged by CRAZY SHIPPO as in his view the gelding failed to finish the race off in a genuine manner after surrendering the lead at its most recent start. Mr Grimson further reported THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ sustained a flat tyre inside the final 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ failed to reveal any significant findings. In the circumstances, Stewards recorded Mr Grimsons’ explanation.

HALLOWEEN – Held up rounding the home turn and the early part of the straight.

GENTLE GIANT NZ – Driver Tiarn Sutton was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular her decision to allow the gelding to progress forward and apply pressure to the leader THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ approaching the 600 metres. Ms Sutton explained that she was mindful THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ had surrendered the lead at its most recent start and it was for this reason, combined with GENTLE GIANT NZ performing its best when driven forward, that she felt she may have been able to obtain the lead. Upon consideration of Ms Suttons’ explanation she was advised that in the opinion of Stewards she had erred in allowing GENTLE GIANT NZ to progress forward and apply pressure to THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ approaching the 600 metres and in the circumstances she should have been more mindful of the early use she made of GENTLE GIANT NZ when the gelding had been 3 wide until the 1000 metres.
