POPS LEGACY – Raced roughly passing the 200m.

EXTREME SEA – Stewards intend to speck with driver Brad Hewitt at Bathurst 27th March 2024 in regards to his tactics adopted from approaching the 1740m.

Updated 27th March 2024.

Driver Brad Hewitt was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particular his decision not to maintain his position in trailing behind  MISSED THE TRUTH passing the 1740m which allowed  POPS LEGACY  which was racing along the marker line sufficient room to shift out in advanced of EXTREME SEA approaching the 1600m. Mr Hewitt  advised  whilst trailing MISSED THE TRUTH he was of the opinion that DON HUGO which was leading the runners in the running line was improving at speed to obtain the lead from BAXTER RED & MISSED THE TRUTH which was following DON HUGO would intern challenge for the lead soon after which would leave EXTREME SEA exposed without cover in the event which he felt would be detrimental to his chance as EXTREME SEA was first up since 9th December 2023 and was rising significantly in class from its previous campaign and now racing more seasoned runners combined with the gelding racing over the longer distance of 2270m for the first time. However when MISSED THE TRUTH did not challenge for the lead as he expected Mr Hewitt advised he was left trailing POPS LEGACY which he was somewhat surprised when it shifted outwards approaching the 1600m and failed to fully trail MISSED THE TRUTH during the event. Upon consideration of the matter Stewards advised Mr Hewitt he had erred in his judgement in not continuing to maintain his position in following MISSED THE TRUTH during that section of the event.

BAXTER RED – (16.00) Trainer/driver Neil Day was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 6th position beaten 18.8m after leading and surrendering the position approaching the 1300m. Mr Day advised the gelding to be slightly disappointing over the concluding stages. Mr Day added BAXTER RED had also sucked wind which may have contributed to the performance.

MONTALBANO – ($26.00) Trainer Rickie Alchin was fined the sum of $50 under AHR Rule 210 for the late driver declaration.  Driver Blake Jones was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 9th and last position beaten 37.5m after initially leading and surrendering that position during the early stages. Mr Jones contributed the performance to a combination of the gelding being first up since December 2023 and being used during the early stages of the event which resulted in the gelding over racing there after which were the main factors to the performance. Mr Jones advised MONTALBANO would derive benefit from the performance.

IAM THE CAPTAIN – Pre-race swab.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare displaying a slow post-race recovery. A warning was issued against the racing competitiveness of SWEET CHAPPY LOU

RACE 9 – ATWORTHY PARK PACE – 1740 metres

COMPLICATED – ($5.00) Driver Shane Hallcroft was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the mare which finished in 9th and last position beaten 31.8m after leading. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
