A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from a poor post-race recovery. Driver J Locke reported that the gelding raced very keenly until leaving the 800 metres and he felt it may have choked down. Connections were advised it would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial prior to its next race start.

DUN ME UP FRANCY – Broke gait free of interference while leading rounding the first turn, for which a warning was issued. Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 800 metres. Tired over the concluding stages. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Driver B Jones was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the mare, in particular after losing considerable ground when the mare galloped rounding the first turn, him electing to improve three wide from approaching the 1000 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader leaving the 800 metres, and the mare then being under pressure after leaving the 600 metres. B Jones stated that he felt as he was still basically with the main body of the field when he got the mare back into a pace so felt they hadn’t lost too much ground and felt during the second quarter that the speed went out of the race, and he is of the view that the mare performs best, particularly on the smaller track of tonight’s meeting, when able to obtain a forward position, so elected to improve at that point in an endeavour to regain a forward position and hoped to be able to do that without placing the mare under much pressure. He added the mare had being working very well and he was of the view that she would be capable of doing the work and finishing the race off. He further that ICE BLASTER which was racing outside the leader made him work a bit harder than he would have liked to get to the position outside the leader. B Jones added that his intention when he got outside the leader was to ease and not place any pressure on the leader and hoped to get a reasonably slow third quarter to give his mare a breather, however HEZ ON THE BUZZER NZ improved to his outside increasing the tempo of the race once again. He added he was somewhat disappointed with the mare’s effort over the concluding stages as she has shown in the past that she can do work in her races and still finish the race off, however the circumstances that eventuated had affected her ability to be able to finish the race off.

Driver C Hart was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, he stated that he elected to improve three wide to get to the position outside the leader as he felt the speed had eased at that point. Trainer/Driver R Alchin was questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of the filly, he stated that the filly contacted its own sulky wheel with its hind leg during the early stages of the event, causing her to over-race, and that combined with the overall tempo of the race, took a toll on her being able to finish the race off. He added that she had never contacted her own sulky before and he felt it being her first start on a tighter track was the reason for it. He further added that assuming the filly recovered well from the run he would continue with her current preparation.

MORESCO – Trainer S Hardy was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the mare, she stated that it had come to her stables at the beginning of this year and she had difficulty initially getting it in a condition she was happy with. She added she had changed its feed and the routine they were working it, which had resulted in the mare being now in a condition she was happy with, and raced in her view accordingly. She further added that some of the more favourable runners receiving interference after the start had given the mare a bit of an advantage. Post-race swab sampled.
