RACE 1 –HILLTOPS EQUIN CENTRE PACE –2100 metres

DELIGHTFUL STAR NZ – Post-race swab.

NOVA JO – Pre-race swab. Pulled hard during the early & middle stages of the event.

 

RACE 2 – POPPA’S FUDGE FACTORY PACE –2100 metres

ORANGE FEVER – Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m when the speed of the event eased in the running line resulting in ACE OF REASON which was trailing contacting the nearside sulky wheel.

TAKE A HIKE NZ – Over raced during the early stages of the event.

POPPY WAH WAH – ($13.00) Pre-race swab. Driver Mat Rue was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 7th position beaten 38.1m. Mr Rue advised the gelding to disappointing and was of the opinion POPPY WAH WAH failed to back up from its most recent start at Young on 12th April 2024 & POPPY WAH WAH had a tendency to hang inwards from the 500m onwards when racing wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. 

BUDDY BRILLIANCE – Post-race swab.

ACE OF REASON – Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m when the speed of the event eased in the running line resulting in the gelding contacting the near sulky wheel of ORANGE FEVER and breaking gait. Broke gait clear of interference passing the 300m. Trainer/driver Thomas Phillips advised ACE OF REASON was contacting its own sulky during the event which he felt contributed to the gelding breaking gait and would take corrective measures to prevent any reoccurrence. ACE OF REASON will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

 

RACE 3–SWSCU PACE –1720 metres

LIMBO LENNY – Pre-race swab. Hang inwards entering the first turn which tightened the racing room of LILYS REASON which was improving to its inside and broke gait. A warning was issued against the racing manners LIMBO LENNY. Checked and raced roughly approaching the 500m when CATCH THE SHARK shifted outwards.

TIPPING POINT – Pre-race swab.

TULHURST WRITER – Held up and failed to gain clear running for the entire length of the home straight.

TULHURST PEBBLES – Checked entering the first turn when LILYS REASON broke gait. Held up during the early stages of the home straight prior obtaining clear running.

CATCH THE SHARK – Driver Brent Blythe pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 163 (1)(a)(iii) the particulars of the charge being approaching the 500m when in a running line position directed CATCH THE SHARK outwards when insufficiently clear of  LIMBO LENNY  which had progressed to his outside causing that runner to be checked and race roughly. In assessing penalty Stewards considered the relevant factors as outlined within the HRNSW Penalty Guidelines, Mr Blythe’s guilty pleathe degree of interference which was assessed in the low-range and his prior clear record under this rule in 120 drives. Stewards accordingly imposed a seven (7) day suspension of his license to drive in races which was ordered to commence at midnight on 16th April 2024. A post-race blood sample was obtained from CATCH THE SHARK 2 ½ hours subsequent to the running of this event. Post-race swab.

LILYS REASON– Hung outwards slightly & tightened for racing room entering the first turn when LIMBO LENNY hang inwards causing LILYS REASON to break gait.

ALABAMA MISS – Checked and broke gait entering the first turn when LILYS REASON broke gait.

KING COREY – Checked entering the first turn when LILYS REASON broke gait.

 

RACE 4– TRIMECH PACE – 1720 metres

General: Registered owner Brian Ingram pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 231(2) which reads: A person shall not misconduct himself in any way. The particulars of the charge being when in the stabling area he retaliated with verbal comments towards a participant. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr Ingram’s guilty plea, his prior record over an extended period that the altercations occurred in view of other licensed participants & the nature of the comments. Stewards accordingly imposed a fine of $200 which was fully suspended for a period of two (2) years providing there are no breaches of the conduct related rules during that time.

KEAYANG DOMINO – Pre-race swab. Trainer Rodney Blythe pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 231(2) which reads: A person shall not misconduct himself in any way. The particulars of the charge being during the running and following this event he misconducted himself by instigating in a loud verbal altercation in directing foul and derogatory comments about another participant when in the public & stabling area.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr Blythe’s guilty plea, his prior clear record over an extended period, that the incident occurred in view of the public & other licensed participants, the nature of the comments and importantly noting that Mr Blythe was the initial instigator of the altercation. Stewards accordingly imposed a fine of $1000 which $500 was fully suspended for a period of two (2) years providing there are no breaches of the conduct related rules during that time.

DONT TELL PHYLLIS – Over raced during the early and middle stages of the event. Hang inwards passing the 400m.

SONGBIRD NZ – Trainer David Micallef pleaded guilty to a charge under AHR Rule 231(2) which reads: A person shall not misconduct himself in any way. The particulars of the charge being when in the stabling area he retaliated with verbal comment towards another participant. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr Micallef’s guilty plea, his prior clear record over an extended period, that the altercations occurred in view of other licensed participants and the nature of the comments. Stewards accordingly imposed a fine of $200 which was fully suspended for a period of two (2) years providing there are no breaches of the conduct related rules during that time.

VILLAGE AREA – Post-race swab.

MCLEAN – Broke gait clear of interference around the first turn. A warning was issued against the racing manners of MCLEAN.

HOLY CAMP PAXTON – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the mare having not started in the preceding 12 months. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

 

RACE 5 – TURNERS FURNITURE ONE PACE – 1720 metre

BACKWARDS FIRST – Broke gait during the middle stages of the score up checking runners on the second row causing a false start being declared at the first attempt. Pulled hard during the second score up and during the early stages of the event prior to being eased out of the event approaching the 1000m and retired from the event. Driver Nicholas Hargraves advised BACKWARDS FIRST had started to choke down in his opinion and for safety reason retired the mare from the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. BACKWARDS FIRST will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.  

JILLIBY SAFFRON – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the mare having not started in the preceding 12 months. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

SIX AGAIN – Pre-race swab & Post-race swab.

BACKINTOWN – Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m when BACKWARDS FIRST was being eased out of the event.

THE KAPITI EXPRESS NZ – Over raced during the early stages of the event. Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m when BACKWARDS FIRST was being eased out of the event.

WESTERN BILL – Inconvenienced approaching the 1000m when BACKWARDS FIRST was being eased out of the event.

CHANGE OF MIND – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races attaining the age of 12 years. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities. 

 

RACE 6 – ARMA INSURANCE BROKERS PACE – 1720 metre

ALICE ON THE BEACH – ($12.00) Trainer/driver Matthew McCaffery was queried into the tactics adopted during the early stages of the event and the overall performance of the mare which finished in 8th position beaten 15.5m. Mr McCaffery advised it was his intentions to hold the lead however as continue pressure was applied by JACKS LAST HOO RAA he felt it would be detrimental to his chances to withstand that challenge & elected to surrender the position approaching the 1200m when doing so ALICE ON THE BEACH commence to over race and failed to settle thereafter which was the main contributing factor to ALICE ON THE BEACH disappointing performance over the concluding stages. Mr McCaffery advised it would be his intention to undertake gear alterations to prevent any reoccurrence going forward.

JOES REDEMPTION – Trainer Nathan Turnbull was fined the sum of $50 under 268A(1) for presenting the gelding in gear which had correctly declared. Post-race swab.

RACE 7 – RIVERINA STOCKFEEDS PACE – 1720 metre 

SUNNYWITHACHANCE– Redirected to start outside the front row after being made ODM at Young on 12th April 2024 subsequently to the fields being released. Began badly as the start was effected. SUNNYWITHACHANCE will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start event.

MASAKE – ($5.00) Trainer/driver Mat Rue was queried into the seemingly improved performance of the mare compared to its most recent starts. Mr Rue advised MASAKE was only having its second start under his care where the mare had trialled well on 11th March 2024 however had an interrupted campaign following that trial & performed below expectations when having its first start for the stable on 10th April 2024 at Bathurst and derive benefit from that run and was dropping significantly in grade this evening and was assisted when being able to lead and obtaining an easy first half of the event. RACE 8 – DOWNLOAD THE TAB APP TODAY PACE – 1720 metres

EMILYS PRINCE – Broke gait shortly after the start was effected checking HARVEY HUGHES NZ which was trailing. EMILYS PRINCE will now be excluded from the barrier draw in future mobile start event. Broke gait clear of interference approaching the 1000m and shifted outwards abruptly contacting the sulky wheel of EYES FOR DOLLARS and severely checking & locking wheels with DOTTIE FEELS GOOD resulting in both runners having to pulled up to disengaged wheels prior to continuing in the event. EMILYS PRINCE will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.

DOTTIE FEELS GOOD – Severely checked & locking wheels with EMILYS PRINCE resulting in both runners having to pulled up to disengaged wheels prior to continuing in the event.   A post –race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a small laceration to the near hind leg. DOTTIE FEELS GOOD received pre-cautionary treatment on course however no stand down was required.

NORDIC ICE DRIFT– Checked approaching the 1000m when EMILYS PRINCE broke gait.

TREACHEROUS GABBY – Post-race swab.

EYES FOR DOLLARS – Sulky contacted approaching the 1000m when EMILYS PRINCE broke gait and shift outwards.

HARVEY HUGHES NZ – Checked and broke gait shortly after the start was effected when EMILYS PRINCE began badly.

MOVINTOHELLANDBACK – Checked & broke gait approaching the 1000m when EMILYS PRINCE broke gait.
