SPEEDY LOVER – Out of position at the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  Shortly after the start jumped a shadow however quickly resumed its correct gait.  Leaving the 1500 metres SPEEDY LOVER was racing almost in a three wide position which afforded LEAF STRIDE NZ an opportunity to shift out as SPEEDY LOVER improved to the outside of LEAF STRIDE NZSPEEDY LOVER was then taken slightly wider before continuing on its forward run.

RACE 4 – STRANGELOVE PACE – 1609 metres

FIFTYSHADES CRESCO – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

WHAT FOR – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

SHARK DANCER – Failed to run on over the concluding stages.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.  When questioned driver G Fitzpatrick explained that he was instructed to drive the gelding forward in an attempt to obtain the lead.  G Fitzpatrick stated that after beginning well he got half a length forward of ALL NIGHT LONG NZ as he shifted down the track. However ALL NIGHT LONG NZ under hard driving, was able to maintain the inside position at which point G Fitzpatrick endeavoured to restrain and shift in. However the position behind the leader at that stage, was taken by WILL I AM which left SHARK DANCER without cover.  G Fitzpatrick added that progressing towards the 1000 metres he felt the tempo had genuinely slowed therefore, he challenged briefly on a second occasion but it became apparent that ALL NIGHT LONG NZ was keen to maintain the lead.  G Fitzpatrick said that SHARK DANCER prefers to lead and was not suited by the stop start tempo coupled with the fact he was forced to race without cover.  G Fitzpatrick’s explanation was noted.

RACE 8 – ALLIED EXPRESS SPECIALISED LOGISTICS PACE – 1609 metres

BOYZHAVTIME NZ – Tired over the concluding stages.

TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ – Broke gait during the middle stages of the score and was slightly out of position at the start.  In view of its recent record trainer/driver J Trainor was advised that TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ would now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw for the immediate future.  When questioned regarding the tactics employed on TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ driver J Trainor explained that the gelding began well and it was his intention to try and find a forward position along the marker pegs.  However BOYZHAVTIME NZ took up a position to his inside and when he restrained the gelding he found himself further back than anticipated.  J Trainor said that BOYZHAVTIME NZ then shifted out from the marker pegs to a position without cover and immediately was trailed by NEPTUNE NZ which did not give TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ an opportunity to obtain a position in the running line with cover. Therefore, he remained racing four back along the marker pegs.  J Trainor added that the tempo through middle stages of the race and particularly through the third quarter was slower than expected and his horse was inclined to over race.  He added that the last quarter was recorded in a fast 26.1 seconds which made difficult for runners back in the field to make up any significant ground.  Notwithstanding this, he said that TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ was fully tested.  After reviewing the films J Trainor’s explanation was noted however he was reminded of his obligations to ensure that he must always drive his horses in a manner that does not leave himself open to question.

FOXY DADA – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.

GIVE ME A MINUTE NZ – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

NEPTUNE NZ – Failed to run on over the concluding stages.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed NEPTUNE NZ had bled from both nostrils.  Acting under rule 101(3)(a) connections were advised that NEPTUNE NZ would be stood down for a period of three months after which time the horse must complete one satisfactory trial and a veterinary certificate of fitness of fitness must be submitted prior to its next start.
