Driver Seaton Grima pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(7), in that he applied the whip outside the confines of the sulky when striking the near side wheel disc on at least three occasions passing the 400 metres. After considering the recent record of Mr Grima he was fined $200.

DOUBLE ENCOUNTER – Examined prior to and following the running of the event as the gelding has competed in excess of 200 race starts. The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight and placed PORT AU PRINCE NZ in restricted room over the concluding stages. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued. Post-race swab sample.

PORT AU PRINCE NZ – Inconvenienced when placed in restricted room over the concluding stages as a result of DOUBLE ENCOUNTER shifting out under pressure.

IN IN TROUBLE – Broke stride during the early stages of the score up. After considering the recent record of the gelding a warning was issued. Over raced during the middle stages of the event.

MALCOLMS RHYTHM – Pre-race blood sample.

TAY TAY – Pre-race blood sample. Stewards questioned Driver Cameron Hart with regards to the performance of the mare which finished in 6th placing. Mr Hart advised Stewards TAY TAY raced keenly throughout the early stages of the event when racing at the rear of the field in a slowly run race and in his opinion the shape in which the race was run gave the mare no chance of finishing any closer to the winner. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Hart, Stewards determined to note his comments.

RACE 2 – BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE – 1609 metres

Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted by Driver Lleyton Green in the early and middle stages of the event, in particular his decision to hand up to the stablemate STRAVINSKY passing the 900 metres. After taking evidence from Driver Lleyton Green and Trainer Seaton Grima the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow Stewards to further consider the evidence of both Mr Green and Mr Grima and to review betting records on the event.

JOE NIEN – Driver James Locke was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain his position behind the mobile barrier prior to the start point.

CAULONIA COURAGE – Inconvenienced and locked wheels with NICHOLAS CAGE NZ when that runner shifted down the track in the run to the first turn. Stewards questioned Driver Joshua Gallagher with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early and middle stages of the event, in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 10th placing beaten 44 metres. Mr Gallagher advised Stewards that the first quarter of the event was run much quicker than he would have liked as a result of the pressure from NICHOLAS CAGE NZ, in addition he was unable to slacken the pace through the middle stages of the event as a result of ALIBERTO NZ driven by Luke McCarthy and SUPER DUPER DUDE NZ driven by Seaton Grima working forward to the position outside the leader. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Gallagher, Stewards determined to note his comments.

NICHOLAS CAGE NZ – Driver Jack Callaghan was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that he permitted his runner to shift down the track in the run to the first turn which resulted in NICHOLAS CAGE NZ locking wheels with CAULONIA COURAGE for a short distance.

Mr Pitt advised Stewards the mare was up in grade this evening racing the open class mares for the first occasion but despite this appeared to travel well until commencing to bore in approaching the 400 metres and race roughly and from that point the mare never really got going again. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Pitt Stewards determined to note his comments.
