MARVELLOUS MAC – ($11.00) Driver Jason Turnbull queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 11th position beaten 50.2m after leading. Mr Turnbull advised the gelding provided to be disappointing and was at loss to explain the performance other than MARVELLOUS MAC may have come to end of its preparation. Mr Turnbull added MARVELLOUS MAC would now likely be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MCLEAN – Broke gait shortly after the start was effected checking multiple runners to varying degrees. A warning was issued against the barrier manners of MCLEAN.

BUDDY BRILLIANCE – ($4.20) Driver John O’Shea was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 9th position beaten 42.1m after racing outside the leader from the 1400m. Mr O’Shea attributed the performance to a combination of the gelding racing against stronger opposition to previous starts and the gelding being exerted more than expected during the middle stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the off hind leg. BUDDY BRILLIANCE will now be stood down from racing pending a veterinary clearance.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT – Bathurst 17TH April – Race 8

General – Stewards tonight concluded an inquiry from the above race in relation to JOSEY MINT racing roughly leaving the 400 metres. Driver’s P Wood (JOSEY MINT), M Rue (NEVERTOOLATE) and N Turnbull (ROCK STEADY) gave evidence during the inquiry and the patrol footage was re-viewed. It was established that JOSEY MINT, which was initially inclined to hang-out rounding the turn, was tightened for room when NEVERTOOLATE hung-in slightly. As a result JOSEY MINT shifted-in away from that runner, and attempted to jump a marker peg and raced roughly as it’s inside sulky wheel contacted marker pegs. Given the circumstances, Stewards were of the view that it was a reportable racing incident.
