RACE 1 – ULTRA AIR 2YO TROTTERS FOUNDATION HEAT 1 – 1609 metres

JACKIES GIFT – Broke in the score up on the first occasion causing a false start for which the filly was issued its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.  Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 900 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

SECOND TO NUN – Broke after the start for which the filly was issued its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

VULCAN STRIDE – Broke in the score up on the first occasion causing a false start. Broke again on the second occasion resulting in VULCAN STRIDE being out of position at the start for which the colt will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  Checked and galloped passing the 400 metres when KENNYS SON shifted down the track to its outside with marginal clearance.  In view of the fact that it is a two year old trotter having its first race start and the minimal clearance it was provided no direct action was taken.

KENNYS SON – Raced erratically throughout the event, contacted a number of marker pegs throughout the event and raced roughly passing the 200 metres whilst contacting marker pegs for which the colt was issued a warning.

MAJESTIC FUNDS – Became unbalanced and galloped shortly after the start for which the colt will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

LUCIUS – Became unbalanced and galloped shortly after the start for which the colt was issued its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 2 – IRT YOUR HORSE OUR PASSION TROTTERS STANDING START HANDICAP – 2300 metres

FOOTTAPPER – Galloped out at the start for which the gelding will be continued outside the standing start draw.  Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1400 metres.  Became unbalanced and galloped leaving the 1350 metres for which the gelding will be stood down until it completes two requalifying trials and for a period of 10 days.

PHOEBE MAJESTIC NZ – The 10 metre barrier strand collected the legs of PHOEBE MAJESTIC NZ as the start was affected resulting in PHOEBE MAJESTIC jumping sideways.  As PHOEBE MAJESTIC NZ had finished in second position, acting under the provisions of rule 15(2) PHOEBE MAJESTIC NZ was unable to be declared a non-runner and the all clear was given on 13, 3, 14 and 9.

TARENTAISE – The 10 metre barrier strand collected the legs of TARENTAISE as TARENTAISE had breasted the tape prior to release.  Stewards delayed the all clear to ascertain whether or not TARENTAISE was afforded a fair start.  After reviewing the vision Stewards determined that although TARENTAISE had breasted the tape this did not materially affect it start as it had trotted away cleanly and therefore the all clear was given on the judge’s numbers of 13, 3, 14 and 9.

HOLD MY HAT DOUG – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1800 metres.

DANCINGALLALONE – Pre-race blood sample.

IM THE COMMANDO NZ – Broke shortly after the start for which the gelding will be now placed right outside the standing start draw.  As a result of its early error IM THE COMMANDO NZ took no competitive part in the event when galloping excessively for which IM THE COMMANDO NZ was stood down until it completes two requalifying trials under standing start conditions and for a period of 10 days.  Trainer C Judd informed Stewards that he will re-assess the gelding’s racing future within his stable.

FLASH KYVALLEY – Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1800 metres.

MELPARK MAGIC – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  No obvious abnormalities were detected of either examination.

RACE 4 – MEDOWIE LODGE PACE – 1609 metres

JOGALONG BLUE – Checked and galloped approaching the 600 metres when the pace on the marker pegs had eased slightly.

HALLOWEEN – Pre-race blood sample.  Driver J Grimson pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that leaving the 200 metres he has allowed HALLOWEEN to shift wider on the track whilst not being sufficiently clear of RUM DELIGHT NZ resulting in HALLOWEEN improving inside that runner’s line and making contact with the near side hind leg of RUM DELIGHT NZ resulting in RUM DELIGHT NZ racing roughly for a short distance and further LINCS POOR BOY being steadied wider on the track.  Driver J Grimson had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of seven days to commence midnight 7 May 2024.  In assessing penalty Stewards considered driver J Grimson’s guilty plea, circumstances of this incident and record in relation to the rule.

ALL STAR MAGICIAN – Worked forward to obtain the lead leaving the 1200 metres.

LINCS POOR BOY – Hampered passing the 200 metres when being taken wider on the track away from RUM DELIGHT NZ which was contacted by HALLOWEEN when shifted out when not sufficiently clear.

CAPITALLEE – Post-race swab sample.

OPERATIVE ANNA – Driver K Morris was cautioned in relation to her whip use on the mare in particular over the concluding stages of the event.

RUM DELIGHT NZ – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  No obvious abnormalities were detected of either examination.  Had its near side hind leg contacted passing the 200 metres when HALLOWEEN was shifted up the track to its inside without the required clearance and as a result raced roughly for a short distance.  Checked and raced roughly for a short distance.

RACE 5 – WARDS ACCOUNTING GROUP PACE – 1609 metres

SAPPHIRESNDIAMONDS – Pre-race blood sample.

AMAZING GRACE – Post-race swab sample.

SOUTHBOUND TRAIN NZ – Became unbalanced and galloped passing the 250 metres for which the gelding was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

KEEPERS IDEAL NZ – Raced rough passing the 1200 metres when the number four carrying strap caught on the peg of the sulky momentarily.  Over raced when positioned outside of the leader.  Stewards questioned driver B Hewitt in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding when failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 47.1 metres finishing in last position.  Mr Hewitt explained that after beginning well he was unable to cross ALL NIGHT LONG NZ in the early stages and felt when that runner was able to find the lead it may have surrendered the lead to KEEPERS IDEAL NZ and when that did not eventuate KEEPERS IDEAL NZ commenced to over race outside of the leader and as a result of the fast 26 second first quarter he felt that this told on the gelding over the concluding stages.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have the thumps however no veterinary treatment or action was required.

OKAY GRINGO – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1150 metres.  It was noted that the head check bit had dislodged from the horse’s mouth throughout the event.
