ROCKNROLL WILLY – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted and overall performance, Driver Z Carroll explained that he had been instructed to obtain cover from his wide barrier and for this reason, despite racing in a forward position in the early stages he elected to continually steady in search of a covered running line position. He said that when he could not achieve this he continued to race wide and was again unsuccessful rounding the turn passing the winning post when CASINO MAN obtained the position behind RAZOR SHARP. He added that after this ROCKNROLL WILLY over raced, was difficult to restrain and raced without cover for an excessive distance. He stated that because of this, when placed under pressure inside the 600m the gelding was unresponsive and weakened in the run to the finish. Taking into account the driving experience of Z Carroll (3 previous drives), he was advised that whilst it is prudent to follow pre-race instruction at his career stage, he must drive at all times with a plan to adapt to circumstances as they unfold. Trainer Mr J Carroll was advised that prior to racing again the gelding must perform satisfactorily in an official qualifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised that prior to racing again ROCKNROLL WILLY must perform competitively in an official qualifying trial.

RACE 4 – STOCKMANS SUPPLIES PACE – 1609 metres

IAM THE JOKER – Hung in for a considerable distance after the start. When questioned in relation to the performance Driver S Rushbrook explained that she had been instructed to drive forward in the early stages, however she was disadvantaged by the gelding’s waywardness and could not apply normal pressure to achieve this. She said that after this the gelding pulled hard when attempting to obtain cover and after racing wide for some distance, weakened inside the 500m. Connections were advised a warning for poor performance would be placed on the geldings racing record.

MONEY HONEY NZ – Failed to respond to its drivers urgings at any stage inside the 800 metres and weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare displayed a slow recovery rate.

KARALTA COURAGE – Trainer/Driver Mr T Ison was cautioned in relation to the amount of times that he applied the whip over the concluding stages. Post-race swab sample.

SAFE JEWELS – Driver L Whittaker was cautioned in relation to the manner he applied the whip in the home straight.

MIDAS SHANNON – Trainer/Driver Mr J Enks was reprimanded under Rule 168(1)(a), for carelessly allowing the gelding to race inside marker pegs entering the back straight on the first occasion when he was attempting to activate gear. As a result of this when being corrected MIDAS SHANNON broke stride and galloped for a short distance. Mr Enks was further reprimanded under Rule 170(1)(b), for allowing his foot to drop below the sulky rest approaching the home turn when attempting to rectify displaced gear.

QUEEN TREACHERIE NZ – When questioned in relation to the performance Trainer/Driver Mr T Ison explained that the mare travelled well during the early stages and was responsive when driven forward in the middle stages when the tempo was unsatisfactory, however was unable to muster sufficient speed to rejoin the running line and was trapped wide for some distance. He said that when placed under pressure inside the 600m the mare became unresponsive and its condition gave out inside the 300m, which he attributed to this being only the second start in the current preparation following a long spell. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 7 – TAMWORTH RADIO CABS – PACING FOR PINK PACE – 1609 metres

SMOLENSKI – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver L Whittaker explained that whilst being challenged for the lead in the early stages, the mare pulled hard and could not be properly restrained. He said that passing the winning post on the first occasion SMOLENSKI continually contacted its own sulky which resulted in it being further difficult to restrain and taking charge for some distance. He said that during the middle stages, due to it’s continued over racing the mare choked down and weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised that prior to racing again SMOLENSKI must perform satisfactorily in an official qualifying trial.

COBLA ROYALE – Pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the performance Driver B Hughes explained that the mare pulled very hard in the early and middle stages, could not be properly restrained and struck its own sulky on occasion. He said he placed COBLA ROYALE under pressure to go forward near the 500 metres and after gaining an initial response the mare weakened and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised that prior to racing again COBLA ROYALE must perform satisfactorily in an official qualifying trial.

Mr James’ licence to drive in races was suspended for 10 days to commence midnight 2 May 2024 and expire Monday 13 May 2024 on which day he may drive.

RACE 8 – PORTABLE HORSE STABLE PACE – 1980 metres

SHADOW ECLIPSE – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver A Varga explained the gelding pulled hard during the early stages and hung in. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing record.
