Driver Chloe Formosa advised she was unable to attend tonight’s meeting resulting in the following late driving changes

Race 1 – YOUTAKEMYBREATHAWAY NZ – Declan Murphy

Race 2 – BETTOR TO BE TRICKY NZ – Declan Murphy

Race 3 – KILLARA JUGGERNAUT – Declan Murphy

Race 4 – ARDENS REALITY NZ – Declan Murphy

Ms Formosa was advised a medical clearance would be required before returning to race driving.

 

RACE 1 – PENRITH WEDNESDAY MARKET PACE – 1720 metres

THERES WALLY – Shifted out after the start.

PROTAGONIST – Post-race swab.

RIPSTONE SNORTER – Inconvenienced after the start as a result of THERES WALLY shifting out slightly.

A REAL GENTLEMAN – Pre-race blood test.  Checked and broke after the start as a result of THERES WALLY shifting out slightly inconveniencing RIPSTONE SNORTER which in turn shifted up the track and checked A REAL GENTLEMAN.

BETTER HARLEY – Held up for clear running in the latter stages of the home straight.

MEGS MONARO – Checked and broke after the start as a result of A REAL GENTLEMAN breaking gait.  Over raced throughout the middle stages of the event.

TEAM OF STARZZZ – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the horse having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  Both examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Checked after the start as a result of A REAL GENTLEMAN breaking gait.  Held up for clear running in the latter stages of the home straight.

 

RACE 2 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 2125 metres

BETTOR TO BE TRICKY NZ – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the horse having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  Both examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Driver Declan Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that passing the 300 metres he has allowed BETTOR TO BE TRICKY NZ to shift wider on the track when not sufficiently clear of NEXT TO ME NZ forcing that runner wider into OUR REDEMPTION causing those two runners to lock wheels and be checked.  Driver Declan Murphy had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of seven days to commence midnight 6 May 2024.  In assessing penalty Stewards considered Mr Murphy’s plea, record in relation to the rule and the circumstances of the incident.

SMIRKS LIKA BOSS – Checked passing the 300 metres as a result of OUR REDEMPTION and NEXT TO ME NZ locking wheels. 

OUR REDEMPTION – Passing the 300 metres locked wheels with NEXT TO ME NZ and was checked and broke as a result of BETTOR TO BE TRICKY NZ shifting wider on the track.

NEXT TO ME NZ – Caught wide early before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1800 metres.  Passing the 300 metres was checked and locked wheels with OUR REDEMPTION as a result of BETTOR TO BE TRICKY NZ shifting wider on the track.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

DESIDERIO – Inconvenienced passing the 300 metres as a result of OUR REDEMPTION and NEXT TO ME NZ locking wheels. 

DILETTO – Pre-race blood test.  Post-race swab.

MAID OF MONEY NZ – Checked and broke gait as a result of OUR REDEMPTION and NEXT TO ME NZ locking wheels.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

 

RACE 3 – STARDUST CIRCUS @ PACEWAY MAY 3RD TO 12TH PACE – 1720 metres

PAINTMEAREASON – Pre-race blood test. 

DAN FERNANDO NZ – Checked passing the 200 metres as a result of MAJOR STATEMENT being checked and breaking gait.

OUR IDEAL DREAM NZ – Hung in in the score up losing ground and checking KILLARA JUGGERNAUT causing a false start, for which a warning was issued.  Slow to begin from the mobile.  Had a tendency to hang in throughout the event.  Checked passing the 200 metres as a result of MAJOR STATEMENT being checked and breaking gait.

SWEDISH MEATBALLS – Caught wide early before being restrained to the rear of the field passing the 1200 metres.  Checked passing the 200 metres as a result of MAJOR STATEMENT being checked and breaking gait.

YANKEE IDEAL – Checked passing the 200 metres and locked wheels with MAJOR STATEMENT.

MAJOR STATEMENT – Caught wide early before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1200 metres.  Checked and broke gait passing the 200 metres and locked wheels with YANKEE IDEAL as a result of TWILIGHT HEAVEN shifting down the track when not sufficiently clear to do so.

STARZZZ REIGN – Checked passing the 200 metres and locked wheels with ACCELERE NZ as a result of MAJOR STATEMENT being checked and breaking gait.

TWILIGHT HEAVEN – Driver Lleyton Green pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that passing the 200 metres he has allowed TWILIGHT HEAVEN to shift down the track when not sufficiently clear of MAJOR STATEMENT causing that runner to be checked and break gait and also causing interference  to varying degrees to numerous runners in the field.  Driver Lleyton Green had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 21 days to commence midnight 11 May 2024.  In assessing penalty Stewards considered Mr Green’s plea, record in relation to the rule and the circumstances of this incident.  Post-race swab.

KILLARA JUGGERNAUT - Checked passing the 200 metres as a result of MAJOR STATEMENT being checked and breaking gait.

ACCELERE NZ – Checked passing the 200 metres and locked wheels with STARZZZ REIGN as a result of MAJOR STATEMENT being checked and breaking gait.

 

RACE 4 – MOTHERS DAY HIGH TEA @ CLUB PACEWAY MAY 12TH PACE – 1720 metres

IDEAL REDEMPTION – Driver Chris Geary was questioned in relation to his driving tactics and the overall performance of the gelding, after sustaining pressure in the early stages Mr Geary elected to hold the lead and continued to hold the lead after being challenged again passing the 800 metres by TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ before giving ground over the concluding stages to be beaten 30.3 metres.  Mr Geary explained that IDEAL REDEMPTION races best when able to race near the lead and races quite tough normally, however felt the gelding was disappointing tonight and the stable indicated that they may freshen the gelding before its next run.

CHARLIES ACE NZ – Inconvenienced when being held up behind IDEAL REDEMPTION which was giving ground.

FEAR THE EAGLE – Trainer Peter Rixon was fined the sum of $50 under rule 210 for failing to advise Jack Callaghan as the driver of the horse by the prescribed time.

FULL BROTHER – Pre-race blood test.

FOXY DADA – Inconvenienced behind IDEAL REDEMPTION when that gelding was giving ground.  Post-race swab.

TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ –  Driver Josh Gallagher was questioned in regards to his driving tactics and the overall performance of the gelding after moving three wide to a position outside the leader approaching the 1100 metres Mr Gallagher elected to apply pressure to the leader IDEAL REDEMPTION passing the 800 metres before failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 19.1 metres into fifth placing.  Mr Gallagher explained his instructions from trainer Kevin Pizzuto were that the gelding had been working well and to drive TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ more aggressively.  Mr Gallagher felt that passing the winning post IDEAL REDEMPTION had commenced to drop the bit slightly and he felt that if he applied pressure he may be able to cross that gelding rounding the turn however was unsuccessful in doing so. Mr Gallagher explained he was happy with the run of TOMMY WATERHOUSE NZ.

 

RACE 5 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 1720 metres

ALWAYS THUNDER – Post-race swab.

SAINT CRUSADER – Broke in the score up for which a warning was issued. 

ARDENS DELIGHT NZ – Pre-race blood test.  Commenced to improve three wide passing the 1300 metres before finding a position outside the leader approaching the 1150 metres. 

SAGINAW NZ – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

 

RACE 6 – MATES4HARNESS LADYSHIP PACE – 2125 metres

YEAH SOPHIE NZ – Had a tendency to over race through the middle stages of the event whilst leading.

TARAMIN – Caught wide early before being restrained at the rear of the field passing the 1750 metres. 

DASHING CHEDDAR – Pre-race blood test.

SALERO – Post-race swab.

 

RACE 7 – HSV OWNERS CLUB CAR SHOW @ PACEWAY MAY 5TH PACE – 2125 metres

HIGHWAY WRITER – Pre-race blood test.

ROGERVALERIO LOMBO – Driver Sean Grayling was questioned in regards to the overall performance of the gelding after tiring over the concluding stages to be beaten 75.3 metres. Mr Grayling stated that after beginning well the horse did over race when racing outside the leader and also the longer distance of the 2125 metres contributed to the overall performance of the gelding. In view of the performance the gelding was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the left fore limb and acting on veterinary advice ROGERVALERIO LOMBO was stood down pending a veterinary certificate.

TIMELY SOVEREIGN – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the horse having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  Both examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Post-race swab.

 

RACE 8 – UNCOMMON SENSE BAND @ PACEWAY MAY 4TH PACE – 2125 metres

BELLRIVERGIRL – Approaching the 75 metres shifted out slightly and had its sulky contacted by TRISTAR FOR CHRIS.

LARRIKIN LENNY – Rounding the first turn raced roughly before being restrained to the inside of marker pegs and again broke gait approaching the 400 metres.  In view of the racing performance of LARRIKIN LENNY the gelding will be required to perform one requalifying trial.

TRISTAR FOR CHRIS – Approaching the 75 metres contacted the sulky of BELLRIVERGIRL and broke gait.

APPLIED NZ – Post-race swab.

MISTER BRILLANTE – Trainer Rickie Alchin was fined the sum of $50 under rule 210 for failing to advise Ashleigh Delosa as the driver of the gelding by the prescribed time.  Pre-race blood test.

SIR KNIGHT – Checked from the 600 metres when held up behind tiring runners before gaining clear running passing the 300 metres.

 

RACE 9 – HRNSW GUARANTEED 2YO PACE – 1720 metres

RED SAPPHIRE – Pre-race blood test.  Post-race swab.

LAZENA – Checked between the 600 metres and the 450 metres when held up behind the tiring LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE.

MADAM TIGER – Approaching the 200 metres broke gait free of interference.  In view of the filly having its second race start it will be required to perform one requalifying trial.

LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE – Driver Troy Williams was questioned in regards to the driving tactics and the overall performance of the filly.  After beginning well Mr Williams elected to press forward to find the front passing the 1300 metres before tiring over the concluding stages to be beaten 91 metres.  Mr Williams explained that it was his intention to drive the horse forward as he had been happy with the horse’s form leading into the event. Mr Williams added he was able to find the front after doing some work but was able to get some respite in the second quarter of 31.6 seconds which he felt was sufficient for the filly to finish the event off, however LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE failed to run on over the concluding stages.  Mr Williams was disappointed in the performance of the filly.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  In view of the filly’s performance LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE will be required to perform one requalifying trial.

IM THE SNIPER – Broke after the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.  Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 89.3 metres.  In view of the performance the gelding will be required to perform one requalifying trial.

JACQUELYN JOY – Broke after the start and will be continued out of the draw in mobile starts.
