RACE 1 – DOWNLOAD THE TAB APP TODAY PACE –1740 metres

SPIRIT LEVEL – ($6.50) Trainer/driver Matthew Harris was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particular from the 300m if he gave consideration to direct the gelding wider on the track when in a running line position prior to the gelding being held up over the final 100m and being untested to the finish of the event finishing in 9th and last position beaten 12.2m. Mr Harris advised he did not give consideration to direct SPIRIT LEVEL wider as the gelding was under pressure passing the 500m along with being urged forward. Mr Harris added he was aware the tempo of the event had only been moderate & and the speed of the event was increasing over the final 400m and it would be difficult to make ground. Mr Harris added he felt RETURN SERVE which was directly in advance of him would improve wider upon entering the home straight and he would be able to take up the vacate position and have a clear run to the finish however when that runner was directed wider it failed to improve and shifted back down the track resulting in SPIRIT LEVEL being held up over the final 100m. Mr Harris explained in his view despite being held up the gelding was at maximum capacity as he felt albeit winning at its most recent start SPIRIT LEVEL was not impressive and may have come to the end of its campaign & it would be his intentions to give SPIRIT LEVEL a spell. After viewing the available replays which the comments of Mr Harris could be verified stewards took the matter no further & recorded his explanation.

SHEZA BETTOR GEM – ($3.10) Trainer/driver Jackson Painting was queried into the overall performance of the mare which finished in 8th position beaten 15.8m after leading. Mr Painting attributed the performance to the mare having to endue more work than expected during the early stages of the event to obtain the lead and the continued pressure during the middle stages of the event. Mr Painting added he felt the mare was disappointing over the concluding stages and would consult with connections with the racing future of SHEZA BETTOR GEM within his stable.

Mr Jones advised FLEUR BELLA was not suited racing without cover over the longer distance as FLEUR BELLA also raced keenly within itself and he would recommend to connections to restrict the mare to the shorter distances going forward if possible. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

I LIKE WHAT I SEE – Pre-race swab.

RACE 7 – MATARANKA PARK STANDARDBREDS PACE – 1740 metre

IMPERIOUS – ($1.95 fav) Driver Peter McRae was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particular his reason after initially racing behind the leader to shift the gelding to a running line position approaching the 1300m and his decision not to improve three (3) wide approaching the 500m resulting in IMPERIOUS being held up between the 500m to 300m before obtaining clear running to finish in 3rd position beaten 13.3m. Mr McRae advised after showing gate speed he was satisfied to maintain his position following the leader NO MORE PROMISES however approaching the 1300m IMPERIOUS was beginning to race fiercely & felt with the gelding’s prior racing history if he was to remain behind the leader IMPERIOUS could become uncontrollable and possibly choke down therefore elected to shift IMPERIOUS into the running line as he was aware DIDNT I was improving forward three (3) wide he would be able to gain cover on that runner in attempt for IMPERIOUS to settle. Mr McRae advised IMPERIOUS was placed under pressure passing the 800m & failed to race in a genuine manner where he had to urge the gelding forward and approaching the 500m he felt it would detrimental to his chances at that stage of the event to progress wider with IMPERIOUS under pressure & requiring consistent urging. Mr McRae added when GLAMOUR FOX improved to his outside passing the 500m IMPERIOUS commenced to race in a more genuine manner however he could not direct the gelding wider without causing interference to GLAMOUR FOX or RUN BUSINESS RUN which was trailing forward. Mr McRae added the trainer would undertake further gear alterations to prevent the gelding pulling in its races. After viewing the available replays which confirmed the comments of Mr McRae from the 800m to 500m where IMPERIOUS was under pressure & driven along therefore the tactics adopted were not unreasonable in the circumstances. However stewards advised Mr McRae he may have erred in his judgement approaching the 1300m when shifting away from a favourable position behind the leader however it was not fully unreasonable in the circumstances with the prior racing history of IMPERIOUS and took the matter no further & advised connections to undertake gear alterations to prevent the gelding racing fiercely in its races going forward.

NO MORE PROMISES – ($4.20) Trainer Paul Kahlefeldt was queried into the overall performance of the mare which finished in 8th position beaten 21.8m after leading. Mr Kahlefeldt advised the mare to be disappointing & attributed the performance to the mare over racing during the middle stages of the event.
