RACE 1 – WARDS ACCOUNTING GROUP 2YO TROTTERS FOUNDATION HEAT 5 – 1609 metres

ORIA – Raced roughly under pressure over the concluding stages and hung out whilst under pressure. 

MAJESTIC FUNDS – Galloped out at the start for which the colt will now be issued its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.  In not placing the colt outside of the draw Stewards were mindful of the false start on the first occasion.

SAN JUAN MOUNTAIN – Hung in under pressure in the home straight on the final occasion.

LUCIUS – Hung out entering the first turn. 

RAINBOW JESTER – Became unbalanced and galloped during the score up on the first occasion and a false start was declared.  Out of position at the start on the second occasion for which the colt will be continued to be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.  Improved three wide leaving the 1000 metres until obtaining a position behind the leader leaving the 700 metres.  It was reported to Stewards following the event that the colt cast a plate during the event.  Post-race swab sample.

MONTY MONTE – Pre-race blood sample.  Circled on the grass prior to the start before becoming fractious during the score up on the first occasion delaying the start for which the colt will be continued to be placed right outside the of the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 2 – MEDOWIE LODGE TROTTERS MOBILE – 1609 metres

FOOTTAPPER – Post-race swab sample.

MIDNIGHT SECRET – Driver T Osmond was fined $50 under rule 162(1)(i) in that she failed to have the gelding in position by the nominated marker prior to the start.

TRIUMPH STRIDE NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Galloped out at the start for which a warning was issued.  Became unbalanced and galloped leaving the 600 metres for a warning was issued. 

ELLOWEN – Hung out during the score up and raced roughly just prior to release.

MILITARY MERIT – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1100 metres. 

 

RACE 3 – FARMER JOES A FAMILY BUSINESS TROTTERS MOBILE – 1609 metres

YOUNG SON – Hampered leaving the 400 metres behind the weakening SHEETWEB WEAVER.

SHEETWEB WEAVER – Weakened over the concluding stages before becoming unbalanced and galloping approaching the 200 metres for which the gelding was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.

TEDESCO NZ – Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1150 metres. 

MELPARK MAGIC – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination. 

RAKERO WARRIOR NZ – Galloped out at the start for which a warning was issued.

WYNBERG WATCH NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Fractious during the score up and was out of position at the start for which the gelding will continue to be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.  Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader passing the 1200 metres.  Post-race swab sample.   

 

RACE 4 – ACCESS ENGINEERING SYSTEMS HVAC LADYSHIP PACE – 1609 metres

CONSIDER IT DONE – Trainer J Rattray was fined $50 under rule 210 for failing to declare T Osmond as the driver by the prescribed time.  Improved three wide from the 1100 metres until obtaining the position outside of the leader passing the 1000 metres.

VOLANDO DENARIO NZ – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader passing the 1200 metres.  Driver Declan Murphy’s right foot dropped from the sulky rest momentarily on entry to the home straight.

GET UP BETTY – Checked when taken up the track by EYE CAN TRY leaving the 200 metres and as a result contacted the sulky wheel of EYE CAN TRY and paced roughly for a short distance.

OZZIE SUNSHINE – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

EYE CAN TRY – Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.  Driver J Gallagher pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that leaving the 200 metres he has shifted EYE CAN TRY wider on the track when not being clear of GET UP BETTY resulting in EYE CAN TRY racing inside the line of GET UP BETTY resulting in that runner being checked before contacting the sulky and racing roughly for a short distance.  Driver J Gallagher had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of seven days to commence midnight 22 June 2024.  In assessing penalty Stewards considered driver J Gallagher’s plea, record in relation to this rule and circumstances of this incident.

 

RACE 5 – OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS @APG SALES TROTTERS MOBILE – 2300 metres

PATRIOT STRIDE NZ – Placed in restricted room entering the first turn when HOT TO TROT NZ was shifted down the track with marginal clearance to its outside.  Over raced when positioned on the marker pegs before trotting roughly and failing to run on over the final 900 metres to be beaten 95.7 metres and finished in last position.  Driver W Rixon advised Stewards that during the early stages when being restrained the gelding over raced and when positioned down on the marker pegs felt that the gelding had choked down and as a result had failed to finish the event off.  In view of the performance and tractability of PATRIOT STRIDE NZ the gelding was stood down until it completes one requalifying trial.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities other than reporting a slow recovery.

ONE MAJIC KENNY NZ – Out of position at the start for which the gelding will continue to be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.

SPEEDY LOVER – Out of position at the start for which the gelding will continue to be placed outside of the mobile barrier draw.

 

RACE 6 – BUBBA GUMP PEST CONTROL PACE – 1609 metres

THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.  Worked forward to obtain the lead passing the 1350 metres.

EXPLOSIVE BRONSKI – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

LANI KAI BEACH – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination. 

OJENNY MAY – Unable to secure clear running in the latter stages of the home straight.

SAPPHIRESNDIAMONDS – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1250 metres.

KATLAS DREAM – Hung in under pressure in the home straight on the final occasion and was hampered passing the 100 metres when THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ shifted up the track marginally to its inside.

 

RACE 7 – MCWICKED JOINS COBBITTY EQUINE PACE – 1609 metres

BOLERO – Unable to secure clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

MISS COLLANN – Pre-race blood sample.

WAMBOYNEINAMERICA – Trainer R Alchin was fined $50 under rule 210 for failing to declare D Murphy as the driver by the prescribed time.  Raced roughly after the start.

WILLS WAY – Post-race swab sample.

GUNFORHIRE – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1200 metres.

 

RACE 8 – ALLIED EXPRESS APP PACE – 1609 metres

AMERICAN HAMMER NZ – Post-race swab sample.

THOMAS ROYAL – Stewards questioned driver C Hart in relation to the tactics adopted over the final 500 metres when looking for runs back down the track and appearing to be held up during the early stages of the home straight.  Driver C Hart explained that THOMAS ROYAL was tested and under pressure around the turn and felt that the gelding failed to travel at any stage throughout the event.  Mr Hart explained that although it appeared THOMAS ROYAL may have been held up in the early stages of the home straight the gelding did not feel comfortable throughout the event at any point and trainer J Alchin would look to re-assess the gelding’s racing future within his stable.  Stewards noted his comments.
