RACE 1 – TEMORA BOWLING CLUB PACE – 2000 metres

General – Prior to the all-clear being given Driver M Towers (GOLDEN REASON) who had been placed third past the post, advised Stewards she would like to view the patrol footage of near the 1500 metres to ascertain whether she had grounds to lodge a protest against the second placed NOTTADOUBT. After viewing the film M Towers lodged an objection alleging interference entering the turn near the 1500 metres, stating that her runner had been tightened for room when racing to the inside of NOTTADOUBT, contacted that runners sulky wheel and was checked and broke gait. Evidence was taken from the Driver of NOTTADOUBT, O Arentz, with senior Trainer/Driver R Arentz assisting him, and further evidence from M Towers, and the patrol footage further reviewed. Stewards dismissed the protest as they were of the view that while GOLDEN REASON had contacted NOTTADOUBT’s sulky wheel they felt that was as a result of that runner being taken down the track when tightened for room by PRINCE PARKER which was racing to its outside. All clear was given on the judge’s numbers.

PARK RUN – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Checked and broke gait near the 1500 metres when GOLDEN REASON broke gait.

GOLDEN REASON – Tightened for room when racing to the inside of NOTTADOUBT entering the turn near the 1500 metres, contacted that runners sulky wheel and was checked and broke gait. Protested against that runner, protest was dismissed.

NOTTADOUBT – Pre-race swab sampled. Tightened for room and contacted the sulky wheel of PRINCE PARKER near the 1500 metres, as a result of the tightening taken down the track and had its sulky wheel contacted by GOLDEN REASON. Withstood a protest by the connections of GOLDEN REASON to retain second place.

COMPLICATED – Inconvenienced near the 1500 metres when GOLDEN REASON broke gait. Post-race swab sampled.

PRINCE PARKER – Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take over the lead leaving the 1500 metres after GOLDEN REASON broke gait. Sulky wheel contacted by NOTTADOUBT entering the turn near the 1500 metres where it sustained a flat tyre. At a subsequent inquiry, Driver T Osmond was found guilty of a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that entering the turn near 1500 metres, she has allowed her runner to shift-in when not sufficiently clear of NOTTADOUBT which was tightened for room, contacted her sulky wheel and was taken down the track tightening GOLDEN REASON which contacted its sulky wheel and was checked and broke gait. As a result of GOLDEN REASON breaking gait, PARK RUN and BLACK ART NZ were checked and broke, SHERMAN was checked, and COMPLICATED and KAMENDABLE FEELING were inconvenienced. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account T Osmond’s driving record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the incident. Driver T Osmond had her license to drive in races suspended for a period of 14 days, to commence at midnight the 28th of June.

KAMENDABLE FEELING – Inconvenienced near the 1500 metres when GOLDEN REASON broke gait. Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 1400 metres.

BLACK ART NZ – Checked and broke gait near the 1500 metres when GOLDEN REASON broke gait.

SHERMAN – Checked near the 1500 metres when GOLDEN REASON broke gait.

MAMMALS ALIBI – Entering the first turn, jostled for a short distance with QUICKSHIFT GIRL for a position in the running line when that runner shifted in after it had hung-out. Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 1600 metres. Driver J Turnbull was given the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding, he stated that he was a bit disappointed with it, but added that it races better when able to lead rather than sitting outside the leader. Trainer N Turnbull added that he felt the quick backup from its previous start, over the slightly longer trip and racing outside the leader didn’t suit his runner tonight.

QUICKSHIFT GIRL – Hung-out entering the first turn, then jostled for a short distance for the position back in the running line with MAMMALS ALIBI.

RACE 5 – ALTORA AG / NEW EARTHMOVING TEMORA CUP – 2386 metres

THE EX HORSEIST – Pre-race swab sampled. Momentarily tightened for room leaving the 400 metres when HERE COMES BOBBY shifted in, shifted-out slightly as a result.

HERE COMES BOBBY – Shifted in leaving the 400 metres, momentarily tightening THE EX HORSEIST, which was inconvenienced and shifted-out slightly. Driver J Locke was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in future.

SMOKIN POCKET – Hung-out leaving the 2000 metres. Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight.

CAPTAIN TOM – Post-race swab sampled.

JOYCIES LAD – Out of position at the start. Driver J Painting was fined $50 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to bring the gelding up into position behind the barrier at the start. Caught racing three wide from the start before being restrained to take up a position in the running line at the rear of the field near the 2000 metres. Inconvenienced leaving the 400 metres when the Driver of ULTIMATE HUGHEY was dislodged from their sulky. J Painting was given the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding, he stated that he had wanted to get a forward position in the race but from the wide draw did not want to get caught racing wide in an early speed battle so eased back from the start to see what unfolded. He added when he saw that WATCHMEDAZZLE was able to get through from its second row draw and take up the position outside the leader he felt it would not surrender that position and restrained to get cover at the rear of the field. He further added that with the way the race was run and being on the smaller track it was going to be difficult for the runners back in the field and he was forced to drive for luck from that point. J Painting added that he suffered interference leaving the 400 metres when ULTIMATE HUGHEY’s driver was dislodged which put paid to any chance he had of finishing in the placing’s. He further added that it was his intention to spell the gelding following tonight’s run.

RACING TIME – Tightened for room between THE EX HORSEIST, which shifted out slightly, and ULTIMATE HUGHEY, which hung-in, leaving the 400 metres and as a result contacted the sulky wheel of  ULTIMATE HUGHEY, resulting in the Driver of that runner being dislodged from their sulky. Checked and raced roughly as a result of contacting the sulky wheel of that runner.

ULTIMATE HUGHEY – Pre-race swab sampled. Hung-in entering the turn leaving the 400 metres and as a result its sulky wheel contacted the leg of RACING TIME resulting in Driver B McPherson being dislodged from her sulky. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that while ULTIMATE HUGHEY had hung-in resulting in its sulky wheel being contacted by RACING TIME, RACING TIME had been taken up the track slightly by THE EX HORSEIST, which shifted-out slightly, after being momentarily tightened when HERE COMES BOBBY shifted-in. Given the tight racing leading up to the incident and the marginal movement of the runners involved, Stewards were of the view that no one runner or Driver had enough of a contributing factor to be blame worthy and noted the circumstances. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities. Driver B McPherson was examined by the on-course paramedics with the examination not revealing any significant injuries.

WATCHMEDAZZLE – Over-raced during the early and middle stages of the event while racing without cover in the running line. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities. Driver J Turnbull was given the opportunity to comment on the performance of the gelding, he stated that in his view the horse is not one that is suited to sitting outside the leader, but was unable to obtain the lead when he attempted to in the early stages of the event. He added that with it over-racing in that position, over the longer trip of tonight’s race effected its ability to be able to finish the race off competitively.

JUDDLEY – Galloped out at the start for which a warning was issued.

REAL IMAGE – Tired over the concluding stages of the event. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance, Trainer/Driver J Painting stated that he was disappointed with its effort and could offer no tangible reasons for it. He added that it was his intention to discuss its current preparation with its owner. Connections were advised the gelding would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.

MASTER GOUDA – Pre-race swab sampled. Caught racing three wide from the start, over-raced while being restrained to take up a position in the running line at the rear of the field near the 1600 metres.

KARINYA GILL – Made a three wide mid race move to take over the position outside the leader leaving the 1600 metres. Continued to work forward to take over the lead from REAL IMAGE approaching the 1200 metres. Trainer/Driver N Turnbull was given the opportunity to comment on the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, which was having its first start for him, he stated that it had been working well since joining his stable after its last start at Parkes and he was confident of a forward showing in tonight’s field. He added that with what it has shown him he believes it will continue to be competitive going forward. Post-race swab sampled.
