Mr Harpley advised after showing initial gate speed he was confident in obtaining the lead as JORGE STREET appeared to be looking to obtain cover and wanted to obtain the position ahead of OUR REBEL YELL which was three (3) wide and challenging for the position. Mr Harpley added when OUR REBEL YELL raced roughly approaching the 1400m he was somewhat surprise in that the driver continued to challenge for a forward positon. Mr Harpley explained he had too urge the mare more than expected during the early stages as LUVTOO was somewhat reluctant. Mr Harpley added once he was able obtain the lead he attempted to give the mare some respite however continued pressure was applied by OUR REBEL YELL until approaching the 900m. Mr Haprley added to he was able to obtain some further respite from the 800m to the 400m in recording a 29.5 seconds quarter. Mr Harpley explained he was satisfied in the manner LUVTOO finished off over the concluding stages after enduring more work than expected. Upon consideration of the matter Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted by Mr Harpley were entirely unreasonable or unacceptable so as to be in breach of the rules however advised him that he may erred in his tactics during the early stages of the event in particular the manner LUVTOO had to urged forward under significant driving to obtain the lead and would expect him to show greater judgement in future. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

OUR REBEL YELL – ($8.00) Driver Mikayla Towers was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding during the early & middle stages of the event and to race on level terms with LUVTOO which resulted in the 1st quarter being recorded in 27.1 seconds & the 2nd quarter being recorded in 29.8 seconds and if she gave consideration to allow the gelding some respite from the 1200m prior to finishing in 8th position beaten 38.4m. Ms Towers explained following the false start OUR REBEL YELL became quite agitated & fierce after showing initial gate speed which the gelding gain a slight advantaged over the JORGE STREET & LUVTOO which were both to her immediate inside however could not cross down without causing interference. Ms Towers added approaching the 1400m OUR REBEL YELL trod on its off fore shoe & blundered and commenced to over race further and was unable to restrain the gelding after obtaining the position outside the leader approaching the 1200m OUR REBEL YELL continued to pull hard and raced on level term with the leader until approaching the 900m were the gelding was able to be restrained and commenced to settle Ms Towers explained. OUR REBEL YELL was placed under pressure from the 600m prior to yielding ground from the 400m. Ms Towers contributed the performance to OUR REBEL YELL becoming fierce following the false start and casting its shoe passing the 1400m. Upon consideration of the matter Stewards issued Ms Towers with a reprimand for driving in a manner, which in their opinion lacked judgement, by persisting for such a distance in racing on level terms with LUVTOO and she could of made greater effort in to restrained the gelding passing the 1200m in attempt to allow OUR REBEL YELL respite after enduring significant work during the early stages of the event. In not taking more action stewards were mindful the manner OUR REBEL YELL became agitated & fierce following the false start combined with the gelding casting a shoe during the event which displaced some of the gelding’s hoof wall. Ms Towers was advised hadn’t been for the false start a charge under the Australian Harness Racing Rules would have been pursued and she is expected to show greater judgement in future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed OUR REBEL YELL to be displacing some hoof wall from its off fore leg after casting its shoe however was not lame and no stand down required.
