SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT – TAMWORTH 20 JUNE 2024 – RACE 5

Passing the 1200m NGAIRE ANNE which was racing behind BUDDY PERFECT was baulked and became momentarily unbalanced when T Ison the driver of BUDDY PERFECT adjusted his position in the sulky and made contact with the head of NGAIRE ANNE after being continually struck from behind. As a result of this, HEY DUDE which was following very closely had to be checked, raced roughly for a short distance then broke stride and could not be restrained to a pacing gait. Further, BRAVE BONDI which raced behind NGAIRE ANNE at that point had to be checked and shifted out abruptly locking wheels with MIDAS SHANNON, which resulted in KATASTROPHEE having to be checked and contacting marker pegs and SPOOKY ART being hampered and forced wider. Taking into account all the circumstances, including the racing manners of HEY DUDE and the relative inexperience of the driver of NGAIRE ANNE, no direct action was taken, however T Ison was cautioned in relation to his actions and reminded of his obligation regarding proper practice and to drive within the confines of his own sulky at all times.

FLIRTS DIVA – Broke stride and galloped during the score up and a false start was declared. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing record.

BAT MATSON – When questioned in relation to her drive, K Hepworth explained that she had been instructed to obtain cover in a position behind midfield in the early stages to allow the gelding an opportunity to finish the race strongly. She said that after the start she restrained, however was unable to secure cover and was trapped wide rounding the turn after the start. She added that approaching the turn into the back straight on the first occasion she drove forward in an attempt to obtain cover in the running line, however BRING YOUR BEST improved quickly on her inside and assumed her intended position. She said that after this BAT MATSON was difficult to restrain, therefore she elected to drive contrary to instruction and go forward and eventually obtain the position outside the lead. She stated that this obliged her to place her drive under significant pressure which in her opinion was the reason the gelding weakened over the concluding stages after providing a strong response inside the 300m.

FOUR FEATHERS – Pre-race blood sample.

BRING YOUR BEST – Post-race blood sample.

ROSIES ROSETTE – Weakened inside the 500 metres and despite the efforts of its driver tailed the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare displayed a slow recovery rate. RACE 8 – LOUNGES PLUS TO 30 JUNE EOF SALE PACE – 1980 metres

ROSBERG NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Pulled hard during the middle stages.

MCCRIKEY NZ – Post-race swab sample.

RACE 9 – TAM HRC – RACEDAY WORKERS APPRECIATION PACE – 1980 metres

MISTER CHEESE – Pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the performance, B Hughes explained that although he obtained the lead with relative ease after the start, the gelding failed to travel comfortably, hung in rounding the turns and was difficult to drive at stages. He added that he was obliged to drive with urgency approaching the winning post with a lap remaining to maintain the lead when being pressured by RIVEERED and racing ungenerously. He stated that whilst he gained some response from the gelding inside the 400m it weakened over the concluding stages when its condition gave out. He added that in his opinion, as this was the first race start from a spell, MISTER CHEESE would derive great benefit and be improved at its next start.

RIVEERED – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted, particularly in the early stages, Trainer/Driver Mr T Robson explained that because of the gelding’s established racing pattern he intended to obtain cover after the start, however it began in a more superior manner than in previous races and after being wide early he was unable to satisfactorily restrain and allowed the gelding to stride freely, where it eventually crossed HEAVENLY SIGN and raced outside the lead without cover. He said that the gelding travelled well in this position and he attempted to cross to the lead near the 800m, but was unable to do so and remained forward of HEAVENLY SIGN. He stated that when placed under pressure inside the 500m RIVEERED responded strongly initially and he felt the performance was a significant improvement on its recent racing performances, which he attributed to a change in the gelding’s shoeing. He said that had RIVEERED not performed well it would have been retired, however he was heartened by the performance and said that it’s preparation would be continued and he would instruct whoever drove it in future to adopt similar tactics to those employed today. His explanation was noted and Mr Robson was advised that he must drive all his runners in a manner that leaves no room for query, particularly when he has more than one runner engaged in an event.

COLBY NZ – Post-race swab sample.
