RACE 1 – IRT TROTTERS MOBILE – 2300 metres

FROSTY GIRL NZ – Broke under pressure passing the 300 metres resulting in ELLOWEN and SHOULD BEABARCA being inconvenienced when FROSTY GIRL NZ remained in a gallop until the finish of the event when unable to be restrained. After taking submissions from driver Zara Fitzpatrick and trainer Blake Fitzpatrick, Stewards placed FROSTY GIRL NZ into 10th and last placing in accordance with Rule 155(1) due to the mare maintaining its ground initially whilst in a gallop. In view of the recent good record of FROSTY GIRL NZ a warning was issued.

LARR DEES SON – Pre-race blood sample. Broke shortly after the start and a warning was issued. Held up during the early part of the home straight.

PHARISEE – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 3 – APIAM AGNES BANKS PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT PACE – 1609 metres

RAZOR SHARP NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

CARIBBEAN RUNA – Driver Lucas Rando was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare in particular his decision to not improve forward and maintain the position following SUNSHINE KARAMEA passing the 1600 metres which enabled ALWAYS A SAM, which was positioned 3 wide, to obtain the position ahead of CARIBBEAN RUNA. Mr Rando explained he was instructed to drive the mare conservatively as per its usual racing pattern and consequently he was mindful not to make too greater use of CARIBEEAN RUNA during the early stages. Mr Rando further added that approaching the 1600 metres he was undecided as to whether to direct CARIBBEAN RUNA to a position on the marker pegs and as a consequence he did not continue to improve his position which enabled ALWAYS A SAM to obtain the position immediately ahead of CARIBBEAN RUNA. Mr Rando further explained as ALWAYS A SAM improved 3 wide passing the 1000 metres CARIBBEAN RUNA ultimately settled in the same position he would have had he improved forward and prevented ALWAYS A SAM from initially obtaining the position immediately ahead of CARIBBEAN RUNA. Mr Rando further explained in not contesting the position during the early stages he was also mindful that SUNSHINE KARAMEA, which was leading the two-wide line, may have progressed forward and challenged JAMBEROO ARK for the lead and therefore leave CARIBBEAN RUNA without cover which would not be in the mare’s best interests and contrary to the instructions issued. All wagering on this event will be analysed.

JAMBEROO ARK – Pre-race blood sample. Trainer Peter Doody was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the winner JAMBEROO ARK which had been well supported. Mr Doody explained the prior performance of JAMBEROO ARK at Penrith on 25 July 2024 was full of merit considering the use made of JAMBEROO ARK during the early stages during a fast lead time and where the horse was pressured during an exceptionally fast third quarter (27.7 seconds) with JAMBEROO ARK only beaten 28.9 metres on that occasion. Mr Doody further explained JAMBEROO ARK was only having its second start for his stable and was benefitted in today’s event by leading over the shorter distance of 1609 metres and obtaining a relatively easy run in the lead during moderate early sectionals. Post-race swab sample taken. All wagering on this event will be analysed.

JUST ROCKNROLL – Declared a late scratching at 2.27pm by order of Stewards due to the gelding not being presented on course 45 minutes prior to race start time. Trainer KerryAnn Morris was subsequently fined $200 under Rule 41(1). Pre-race blood sample.

ALL STAR MAGICIAN – Baulked approaching the 1000 metres and broke gait resulting in FIFTYSHADES CRESCO, REIGN MAKER, KATLAS DREAM, TOP THE ACE, THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ, ULTIMATE AD and RUM DELIGHT NZ being checked to varying degrees. A post-race veterinary examination of ALL STAR MAGICIAN failed to reveal any significant findings. Giver the gelding’s extended clear offence record a warning was issued. Co-trainer D McDowell advised the stable would fit a shadow roll prior to the next race start of ALL STAR MAGICIAN.

THE GOLDEN CROSS NZ - Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races. Theses examinations did not reveal any significant findings. Checked passing the 1000 metres as a result of ALL STAR MAGICIAN baulking and breaking gait.

General

Consideration was given to a protest lodged by David Waite, trainer of 3rd placed RIPSTONE SNORTER, alleging interference against 2ndplaced LARRIKIN LENNY over the concluding stages. After hearing submissions from Mr Waite and taking evidence from drivers Chris Geary (RIPSTONE SNORTER), Robert Morris (LARRIKIN LENNY) and review of the available replays it was established approaching the 50 metres LARRIKIN LENNY commenced to shift out resulting in contact occurring between LARRIKIN LENNY and RIPSTONE SNORTER whilst both runners were positioned on equal terms with the contact resulting in RIPSTONE SNORTER being checked and losing momentum. Upon consideration of all available evidence,  Stewards were satisfied that but for the interference sustained by RIPSTONE SNORTER it would have finished ahead of LARRIKIN LENNY and accordingly upheld the protest with all clear given on the amended placings. (1ST- OPERATIVE ANNA, 2ND – RIPSTONE SNORTER, 3RD LARRIKIN LENNY & 4th – MONTEFIORE NZ). At a subsequent inquiry, Robert Morris the driver of LARRIKIN LENNY was fined $200 under Rule 162(1)(www)(a) for allowing LARRIKIN LENNY to shift out under pressure approaching the 50 metres resulting in RIPSTONE SNORTER being impeded.

In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the HRNSW penalty guidelines placing particular weight on Mr Watts’ guilty plea and good prior record. Stewards accordingly imposed a 7 days suspension of his licence to drive in races which was ordered to commence midnight 6 August 2024.

SHADES OF HEAVEN – Held up during the early part of the straight and inconvenienced as YAHOO NZ commenced to give ground.
