General:

Stewards opened an inquiry into an alleged incident that took place following Race 4 involving Trainer/Driver T. Ison, Driver M. Ison and the horse FIRST STRING. After taking evidence from T. Ison, M. Ison and M. Elder the Trainer of FIRST STRING along with a number of witnesses the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

RACE 1 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE - 1609metres

MACH CHARM – Underwent a pre and post-race veterinary examination due to competing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

GLENN FORD NZ –

NIFTY STUDLEIGH – Underwent a pre and post-race veterinary examination due to competing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Pre-race blood sample.

SHADOW ECLIPSE – Underwent a pre and post-race veterinary examination due to competing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Post-race swab sample.

WAITING FOR LOVE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have soreness in the back area. Trainer G. Brown was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to racing again and furthermore will be stood down for a period of 7 days.

WALLAROY BOY – Will now be re-included in the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 2 – MATES4HARNESS PACE – 1609metres

THRIPENNY – Slow to begin.

LA DERNIERE – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

BEANCOUNTER – Hung out during the middle and latter stages of the score up.

OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZ – Broke in the early stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was issued.

RACE 3 – COCA COLA PACE – 1609metres

PEPPA BLISS – Stewards questioned Driver J. Hughes in regards to the driving tactics adopted on the mare during the early and middle stages of the event. J. Hughes stated as per the usual racing pattern he was advised to drive the mare forward at the start and attempt to find the position outside the leader. J. Hughes added that after beginning well he drove forward at the start however GO OH MICKEY NZ was able to improve through from the 2nd row and therefore was obliged to race three wide rounding the first turn. J. Hughes added that from the 1250 metres and until near the 1000 metres he continued to drive forward to ensure that DAN FERNANDO NZ which was leading would surrender that position to GO OH MICKEY NZ which would then allow him to race outside the lead. J. Hughes added that after being successful in doing that the mare was under pressure from the 400 metres and in his opinion was disappointing considering the mare has worked hard in its races before and finished them off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the performance a warning was issued.

COOL NIGHT – Pre-race blood sample.

MACH DADDY – Hung in during the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was issued.

GO OH MICKEY NZ – Broke in the score up. A warning was issued. Post-race swab sample.

RACE 4 – GLOBAL BRANDS LIQOUR PACE – 1609metres

SIR SIMON – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the event.

SHADES OF HEAVEN – Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight.

HEAVENLY HOLLY – Post-race swab sample.

RACING PAULA – Driver T. Ison was fined $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) for applying his whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight on the final occasion.

OUR IDEAL DREAM NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 5 – TOOHEYS PACE – 1609metres

METALLICA MAN – Post-race swab sample.

PORT AU PRINCE NZ – Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight.

VAN BASTEN – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 6 – GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PACE – 1609metres

TRUE STEPPER – Weakened from the 600 metres to be beaten 75 metres. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the performance the mare will be stood down until it can complete one satisfactory trial.

APACHE WHITESOX – Post-race swab sample.

MIZZZ ADELE – Pre-race blood sample.

BE GOOD BENNY – Near the 200 metres was checked and raced roughly when it contacted the sulky wheel of SILVER LADY NZ which shifted out.

SILVER LADY NZ – Driver D. Carmody was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that near the 200 metres when shifting wider contacted the legs of BE GOOD BENNY which was checked and raced roughly. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the degree of interference suffered, the circumstances of the incident and furthermore that Driver D. Carmody hadn’t had an offence under this rule since 2013.

RACE 7 – AVE TECHNOLOGIES PACE – 1609metres

HALSEY NICOLE – Post-race swab sample.

GOOD WORD THAT – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

SINBINNED – Pre-race blood sample.

TOUGH TALKS – Weakened from the 500 metres to be beaten 56 metres. Driver B. Elder reported that in his opinion the gelding is best suited when leading or racing in a forward position and it would be the intention circumstances permitting to drive the gelding in that manner. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8 – PITCH PARTNER PACE – 1609metres

IRE OF THE DRAGON – Near the 300 metres locked wheels with SYLVIA KAY NZ and was checked. In this incident the gelding sustained a flat tyre.

SYLIVA KAY NZ – Near the 300 metres when tiring shifted out slightly and locked wheels with IRE OF THE DRAGON. When questioned regarding the performance of the mare Driver B. Lindsay stated that although the mare had worked well leading into the event she was disappointed with the overall performance and it would be her intention to increase the work load prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DE LA RENTA NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

BRAVE BONDI – Post-race swab sample.

GLENFRANKIE – Near the 300 metres was checked when SYLVIA KAY NZ and IRE OF THE DRAGON locked wheels.

BODYLINE – Near the 300 metres was checked when SYLVIA KAY NZ and IRE OF THE DRAGON locked wheels.

JUSTAWARRIOR – Near the 300 metres was checked when SYLVIA KAY NZ and IRE OF THE DRAGON locked wheels.

RACE 9 – THE TAB APP PACE – 1609metres

DANCEBYTHESEASIDE – Stewards questioned Driver M. Formosa in regards to the performance of the gelding which weakened to be beaten 32 metres. M. Formosa stated that it was his intention to surrender the lead to TOUGH NUT TEEJAY however approaching the 1400 metres he observed that runner racing roughly and therefore maintained the lead. M. Formosa added that the early tempo had a bearing on the overall finishing positon and it would be his intention circumstances permitting to drive the gelding with cover in future. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

ROCKNROLL CLARRY – Post-race swab sample.

TOUGH NUT TEEJAY – Near the 1400 metres became unbalanced and galloped. A warning was issued.

PENURIOUS – Pre-race blood sample.

MYSTICAL SUNSHINE – Broke after the start. Will be placed on its last chance in the draw.
