Mr Callaghan explained the gelding over raced from the start of the event and felt this was detrimental to the performance of the gelding over the concluding stages and noted in his opinion he felt ADMIRABLE NZ had choked down. Driver J Callaghan explained in his opinion the mare may be better suited when racing on larger tracks and did not appear to handle the smaller 800 metres circuit.

OLLIE ONE SHOT – Driver P Tanti was issued a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that as the runners entered the first turn he has allowed OLLIE ONE SHOT to shift down the track whilst having DASHING CHEDDAR racing to his inside and as a result DASHING CHEDDAR was tightened and taken down towards the marker pegs. In not taking more severe action, Stewards noted at the point of interference DASHING CHEDDAR had improved from the three wide line to the inside of OLLIE ONE SHOT and had only just obtained the run to the inside of that runner.

RACE 5 – HALLWOEEN SMORG @ CLUB PACEWAY NOV 1 PACE – 1720 metres

BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ – Stewards questioned Driver J Bigeni in relation to the tactics adopted and the overall performance of BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ when failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 41 metres and finished in last position. Mr Bigeni explained his pre-race intention was to try and cross CHARLIES ACE NZ shortly after the start and look to hand up to one of the favoured runners. Mr Bigeni explained that the gelding began well however as runners rounded the first turn it became apparent he was not going to be able to cross CHARLIES ACE NZ and noted the tempo at this stage of the event was fast however at this point BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ did race keenly and took longer than anticipated for him to be able to obtain cover. Mr Bigeni added due to the early tempo and then being left racing in the position outside the leader until obtaining cover from JOE NIEN around the 850 metres, this proved detrimental to his horse over the concluding stages. Stewards advised Driver J Bigeni they believed he had erred in his judgement during the early stages, when noting the tempo and the rise in class for BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ, that after a short challenge for the lead forward of CHARLIES ACE NZ was unsuccessful, he should have eased his drive and allowed his drive some respite prior to the 1400 metres.

THE REAL MCCOY NZ – Caught racing three wide in the early stages until working forward to obtain the lead passing the 1375 metres. Stewards questioned Driver B Grima in relation to the tactics and performance of THE REAL MCCOY NZ. Mr Grima explained his pre-race instructions were to go forward and look to obtain the lead and noted he was surprised when BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ improved to his inside with as much vigour as it did up until the 1400 metres and noted he was satisfied with the performance of the THE REAL MCCOY NZ considering the additional work he was required to do to get the lead. Stewards noted his comments.

SWEET AGENDA – Stewards questioned Driver C Hart in relation to the tactics adopted and the overall performance of the mare. Mr Hart explained during the early stages, considering the drop in class for his mare he thought he would be able to get to the lead and as a result of BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ improving fast to his inside which took him by surprise and took longer than anticipated to be able to get towards the lead passing the 1150 metres. Mr Hart explained considering the additional work done during the early stages to cross forward of BOBBY WATERHOUSE NZ and THE REAL MCCOY NZ he was satisfied with the performance of SWEET AGENDA. Stewards noted his comments.
