RACE 1 – YOUNG CARNIVAL OF CUPS 8TH NOVEMBER PACE – 2100 metres

MIGHTY JOE – Over-raced during the middle stages of the event. Driver O Frisby was given the opportunity to comment on the below market expectations performance of the gelding, she stated she was disappointed with its effort over the concluding stages after she was able to run at just a steady pace in front. She added that she was fairly confident of a forward showing in tonight’s field and was happy to maintain the lead when A DUSTY DANCE and BEAU STEELE were racing to her outside, given the sectionals being set in the early stages, but added the gelding over-raced a bit form that point which didn’t assist it. Trainer M Hewitt reported that he was also disappointed with its run tonight, stated that it had been working well and had expected a forward showing.

A DUSTY DANCE – Pre-race swab sampled. Trainer/Driver M Hewitt was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the mare, in particular if he considered surrendering the position outside the leader to BEAU STEELE when it improved to his outside near the 1600 metres. He stated he felt that runner had done a fair bit of work rounding the first turn so decided not to surrender his position to it, he added that his mare then raced keenly from that point.

BEAU STEELE – Caught racing three wide from the start before being restrained to take up a position on the marker pegs at the rear of the field near the 1000 metres. Trainer/Driver J Downey was questioned regarding his tactics, he stated that he felt he may have been able to lead in tonight’s race and drove out at the start in an attempt to do so, however was unable to cross A DUSTY DANCE and MIGHTY JOE and was caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event. He added that he worked forward in an endeavour to cross A DUSTY DANCE to get to the position outside the leader but it became apparent that that runner was not going to surrender its position to him so he took a hold of his runner to get a position with cover back in the field. He further added that he had difficulty getting the gelding to come back to him after firing it up at the start so he was stuck out three wide for longer than he would have preferred.

GABBYS SPORTSTAR – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Held up for clear running until near the 100 metres.

WARRAWEE CRUZIN – Post-race swab sampled.

RACE 2 – AUSTRALIAN HOTEL PACE – 1720 metres

KEAYANG LADYBUG – Tired over the concluding stages and beaten by a considerable margin. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised the mare would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial. Trainer/Driver D Druitt reported that the mare carried a flat tyre over the concluding stages of the race.

HES A TERROR – Pre-race swab sampled.

IDEAL DENNY – Pulled hard during the score-up. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

IM BELIEBER – Hung-in during the latter part of the score-up.

WESTERN BILL – Inconvenienced behind the tiring KEAYANG LADYBUG leaving the 400 metres.

MEGS MONARO – Post-race swab sampled.

RACE 3 – SWS BANK PACE – 1720 metres

SHEZ BETTORS BABE – Driver B Hogan was fined the sum of $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) for using his whip with an action that was more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight.

LESSISMORE – Hung-in during the latter part of the score-up and galloped out at the start for which a warning was issued.

JOHNNYS BLUE – Hung-in entering the first turn. Trainer/Driver M Hewitt was questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of the gelding, he stated that he wasn’t too disappointed with its run. He added that he was pushed out to a four wide position rounding the home turn which made it harder for him and it ran on okay after that in his view.

DEEBO – Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.

TULHURST WRITER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn, prior to obtaining a run to the inside of SHEZ BETTORS BABE approaching the 100 metres.

RACE 4 – YOUNG WORKWEAR 2YO PACE – 2100 metres

SHES CRUISIN – Tired over the concluding stages after leading the event. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, Trainer/Driver T Day stated that the filly had a long spell after its last start as it had a virus after that run. He added that it took some time to get her right and she had trialled several times prior to tonight’s run and he was reasonably pleased with her latest trial. He added that he entered tonight expecting a forward showing and was disappointed with its effort over the concluding stages and would be getting his Vet to give it a full examination in the coming days.

TULHURST TOOT TOOT – Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

YARRAMAN JOLT – Broke gait rounding the first turn, for which a warning was issued. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.

HY MAINTENANCE – Post-race swab sampled.

SEVEN TEE TWO – Raced roughly after the start for which a warning was issued.

THE KING OFTHEROAD Broke gait free of interference leaving the 200 metres, given it was the colt’s first race start connections were advised that it would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 – YOUNG SERVICES CLUB PACE – 1720 metres

HARLEY JAMES – Pre-race swab sampled. Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it is 12 years old, and was cleared to start. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages of the race. Driver E Turnbull was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the gelding, in particular her decision to shift down to the marker pegs leaving the 500 metres, when there appeared to be an option to shift three wide at that stage enabling more of an opportunity to gain a clear run to the finish. E Turnbull stated that the gelding is normally driven for luck if it can’t lead, and at that point felt THATS THE ATTITUDE, which was racing three wide, was under pressure and she would have to race at least four wide rounding the home turn to improve. She added that she was of the view that STUDLEIGH PATRICIA which she shifted down on to the back of, would shift up the track rounding the home turn and she would be able to improve to its inside, but that did not eventuate. E Turnbull added that she was of the view that if she had taken the wider option her finishing position would not have altered.

THATS THE ATTITUDE – Raced three wide from the start before working forward to take up the position outside the leader leaving the 1400 metres. Sulky wheel contacted by BATED BREATH near the 50 metres and became unbalanced as a result.

ULTIMATE TROUBLE – Post-race swab sampled.

BATED BREATH – Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight. Driver J Turnbull was issued with a reprimand under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that near the 50 metres he attempted a run where there was insufficient room between ULTIMATE TROUBLE and THATS THE ATTITUDE and made contact to the sulky wheel of THATS THE ATTITUDE resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

RACE 6 – T & D PRODUCE PACE – 1720 metres

JACKS LAST HOO RAA – Post-race swab sampled.

IDEAL TAO – Pre-race swab sampled. Driver M Johnson reported that the mare carried a flat tyre over the concluding stages of the race.

RACE 7 – THE TAB APP PACE – 1720 metres

LA BOMBA – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

ROSE OF JULIANA – Tired over the concluding stages of the event. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Driver A Clancy was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare, in particular after resisting surrendering his position outside the leader to JIGGLE ART which would have given his runner the one-out one-back position, him appearing then to allow his runner to pressure the leader whilst setting quick sectional times for the first half of the last mile. A Clancy stated that he had intended to attempt to lead the event tonight, but a short distance after the start JIGGLE ART shifted in and their sulky wheels locked together and he felt he was forced to check his runner and lost his early speed resulting in him being unable to cross ALPHA XENA. He added that he thought ALPHA XENA would surrender the lead to his runner but when he improved to its outside near the 1400 metres it became apparent that it was not going to and he attempted to ease his runner. He further added that he was of the view that JIGGLE ART was not the runner he wanted to obtain cover behind as he felt its form was not strong. A Clancy further added he was unable to ease the mare as the early burn had fired her up and he felt she was not going to come back to him, and she continued to over-race. Stewards issued a charge against A Clancy under Rule 149(2) for driving in a manner which in the opinion of the Stewards was unacceptable, in that after working forward in the early stages to obtain the position outside the leader, he has resisted the opportunity to obtain cover when there was an opportunity to do so near the 1400 metres, and then from near the 1200 metres he has made insufficient effort to prevent his runner from continuing to pressure ALPHA XENA, running quicker than his runner has had the capability to do, resulting in it losing ground from near the 400 metres, being beaten by a considerable margin and negatively impacting the run of ALPHA XENA. A Clancy pleaded not guilty to the charge and was subsequently found guilty of it. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into consideration A Clancy’s clear record with regards to this rule, his experience, the particular circumstances of the offence and the HRNSW Penalty Guidelines. A Clancy had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 6 weeks, to commence at midnight the 23rd of October.

JIGGLE ART – Pre-race swab sampled. Raced three wide from the start before being restrained to obtain a position with cover in the running line near the 1200 metres.

MI MATE RON – Trainer/Driver N Hoy was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, he stated that it was suited with the way the race was run, with the early speed advantaging his runner when it was back in the field. He added that he did no work early and settled into a position with cover in the running line. He further added he was able to get a three wide trail on the back of THE RINGMASTER leaving the 800 metres and stayed on the back of that runner until leaving the 400 metres where it had taken him up to second position and was able to outsprint it in the run to the finish. N Hoy added that he felt the gelding had performed reasonably in its last two runs, with its last race being not run to suit when it was drawn on the second row. Post-race swab sampled.
