RACE 1 – 10TH ANNIVERSARY AT THE GOLD CROWN PACEWAY PACE – 1730 metres

SPECIAL SPIN – Hampered shortly after the start and had to be shifted in to avoid CANDI.

CAMSTAR ROAD – When questioned in relation to the performance driver P Betts explained that the gelding travelled relatively well in the early and middle stages in the running line, however when pressured inside the 400 metres responded only moderately and was slightly disappointing in the run to the finish.

RACE 2 – THE TAB APP LADYSHIP PACE – 1730 metres

AUNTIE LOU – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in the early stages and particularly passing the winning post on the first occasion driver I Ross explained that it was her intention to lead from her favourable barrier draw if she could do so without placing the filly under too much pressure. She said that she began well and drove with some urgency to establish the lead and resisted an early challenge from LIMBO LILLY and after this AUNTIE LOU raced comfortably until SWEET ADDITION improved on her outside approaching the winning post on the first occasion. She stated at this time the tempo was too strong for her to maintain the lead and she elected to take cover form that runner and said that after doing so, AUNTIE LOU travelled well. She added that with the benefit of hindsight she would have resisted the challenge from SWEET ADDITION, as she became significantly disadvantaged when held up behind that runner inside the 500m and was obliged to restrain for a considerable distance approaching the home turn. Further, she stated that in her opinion AUNTIE LOU was now seasoned enough to maintain the lead in races of its own grade if circumstances suited.

BELLAGANOOSH – Raced in restricted room for some distance approaching the home turn and could not be driven forward.

LIMBO LILLY – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted and overall performance driver P Betts explained, that it was her intention to attempt to obtain the lead and she drove accordingly in the early stages, however after being unable to achieve this she assumed the position outside the lead after the start. She said that approaching the winning post on the first occasion, despite the quick tempo, she was easily crossed by SWEET ADDITION and after this she was obliged to again place her drive under pressure to maintain contact with the lead. She said that LIMBO LILLY failed to travel well after this and was unresponsive inside the 400m and disappointing in its finishing effort. Connections were advised that a warning for poor performance would be placed on the mare’s racing record.

SWEET ADDITION NZ – When questioned in relation to the tactics and overall performance, trainer/driver Ms A Turnbull explained that despite her wide barrier draw, it was her intention to lead, however she was mindful of the filly racing intractably after the start at its most recent race start and drove in the early stages without applying pressure. She said that despite being wide after the start SWEET ADDITION improved quickly without urging and rounding the turn continued strong forward momentum on the back of LIMBO LILLY. She said that entering the home straight on the first occasion she shifted wider and allowed her drive to go forward and passing the winning post on the first occasion, despite the strong tempo was able to cross to the lead and raced comfortably in that position. She stated that after this she eased the race tempo for a comfortable 3rd quarter, however when placed under pressure to go forward approaching the 400m SWEET ADDITION was unresponsive and despite her constant efforts the filly could not improve. She added that she was uncertain what a future racing program would be and a decision could not be made until consultation with the owners and recovery from this race had been properly monitored. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.  Ms Turnbull was advised that prior to racing again, SWEET ADDITION NZ must perform competitively in an official qualifying trial.

VOLANDO DENARIO NZ – Broke stride free of any external factors and galloped for a short distance in the score up.  Taking into account all the circumstances trainer/driver Mr M Rue was advised that the provision of last chance in the mobile draw would be placed on the mare’s racing record.

RACE 5 – TOWN & COUNTRY RURAL SUPPLIES PACE – 2260 metres

ROCKNROLL RAIDER – When questioned in relation to the performance driver J Turnbull explained that after obtaining the lead easily the gelding pulled very hard in the early and middle stages and was difficult to restrain. He said that as this continued he became concerned with the geldings action passing the 1000 metres and again passing the 800m when it was unbalanced and he was concerned that because of its tractability it may choke down. He added that when placed under pressure to improve it was unresponsive and broke stride under pressure in the home straight due to its racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.  Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing record.
