DONTLETFEARSTOPYA NZ – Hung in against the efforts of its driver passing the 400 metres resulting in DAN FERNANDO NZ being tightened and checked. A warning was placed on the record of the gelding. Driver Cameron Hart explained the gelding in his view was not suited to being positioned very wide rounding the final turn when the race was run at its fastest, which combined with DONTLETFEARSTOPYA NZ hanging in, made it difficult for the gelding to make ground.

CLEMENTSORRELL – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races. These examinations did not reveal any significant findings. Driver Will Rixon was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, firstly the reason for ROCKSIE ROCK obtaining the position ahead of CLEMENTSORRELL approaching the 1400 metres, and secondly the reason for CLEMENTSORRELL being restrained after commencing to improve 3 wide passing the 1300 metres. Mr Rixon explained shortly after passing the 1600 metres he identified the position 4 back along the marker pegs was available and commenced to direct CLEMENTSORRELL in to obtain this position however simultaneously ULTIMATE AD, which was positioned ahead, shifted in resulting in him being unsuccessful in obtaining the desired position. Mr Rixon further added that as a result of commencing to shift in ROCKSIE ROCK, which was positioned slightly in advance, was able to shift in and as a consequence that runner was able to obtain the position ahead of CLEMENTSORRELL. Mr Rixon further added he allowed CLEMENTSORRELL to commence to improve 3 wide passing the 1400 metres as SILENT REACTION, which was positioned outside the leader, appeared as if it would relinquish that position however as he commenced to improve 3 wide it became apparent SILENT REACTION commenced to over race and he did not feel he would be able to obtain the position without making use of CLEMENTSORRELL which would be detrimental to the gelding’s overall chances and he commenced to restrain the gelding to the rear of the field where he drove CLEMENTSORRELL conservatively thereafter. Upon consideration of both matters and the explanations tendered by Mr Rixon, which Stewards were satisfied were wholly verified by the available replays, the matter was taken no further other than to record Mr Rixon’s explanation.

MISTER POVERTY – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Klayton Bigeni explained he allowed MISTER POVERTY to commence to improve 3 wide passing the 1400 metres as he had observed VESPA STRIDE, who was occupying the position outside the leader, was positioned well back away from the leader which gave the impression the position ahead of that runner would be easily obtainable. Mr Bigeni added upon commencing to improve 3 wide MISTER POVERTY did not improve as quickly as expected and as a consequence the gelding was caught 3 wide thereafter.
