Stewards delayed the all clear of this event to ascertain whether or not CALL ME JACK had gained or maintained ground whilst in a gallop over the final 75 metres and being placed second by the judge. After reviewing the patrol vision and taking submissions from Driver I McMahon, Stewards determined that after initially galloping at the 75 metres the gelding originally maintained its ground relative to other runners and considering the short margin between 2nd and 3rd, CALL ME JACK was relegated to 3rd position acting under the provisions of Rule 155(1). In view of the gelding’s recent record a warning was issued.

LAST CLANSMAN – Became unbalanced and galloped shortly after the start for which the gelding was issued its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

ALDEBARAN JENSEN – Became unbalanced and galloped leaving the 200 metres. Stewards delayed the all clear in this event to ascertain whether or not ALDEBARAN JENSEN had gained or maintained its ground to the detriment of other runners over the concluding stages when galloping from the 200 metres until the finish and being placed third by the judge. Stewards determined that ALDEBARAN JENSEN when galloping past the 200 metres had initially commenced to lose ground although as Driver H Rixon manoeuvred up the track and went to gain a further grip on ALDEBARAN JENSEN, the gelding gained ground to the detriment of other runners and as a result Stewards under the provisions of Rule 155(1) declared ALDEBARAN JENSEN be disqualified from the event. In view of the gelding’s recent record it was issued its last chance to race truly. Stewards reminded Driver H Rixon of her obligations under Rule 154(1).  The all clear was given on the judge’s numbers of 1 – 4 – 2 – 6.

Driver S Piltz explained his pre-race instructions and intention was to go forward and maintain the lead however after obtaining the lead in a 27.4 first quarter he noticed MONTEFIORE NZ improving to his outside which he felt would be a suitable runner to take cover from, however as that runner raced to his outside he noticed Driver W Rixon apply significant vigour to MONTEFIORE NZ however that runner was reluctant to improve forward in a 31.5 second quarter. Mr Piltz explained during this point EYEKNOW improved three wide and he was able to obtain cover leaving the 700 metres.
