TEDESCO NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
ADDICTIVE STRIDE – Inconvenienced and broke gait approaching the 1500 metres when the pace of the event eased. In view of the gelding’s recent record, ADDICTIVE STRIDE will now be placed on its last chance to race truly. In not taking more severe action against ADDICTIVE STRIDE Stewards were mindful of the pace of the event easing at this point, which contributed to the gelding breaking gait.
VALLEY STAR NZ – Driver Will Rixon was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that shortly after passing the 150 metres he permitted VALLEY STAR NZ to shift out resulting in ADDICTIVE STRIDE being checked. In not taking more severe action against Mr Rixon Stewards were mindful that at the point he commenced to shift out he was initially clear of ADDICTIVE STRIDE to do so.
MAJESTIC BREEZE NZ – Significantly out of position at the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. RACE 4 – DAHUA COMMUNITY PACE – 1609 metres
OUR ULTIMATE BONNY – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten in excess of 61 metres. Driver Declan Murphy explained the mare was having its first run at Menangle which combined with the fast sectionals (1:52.8) he felt told on OUR ULTIMATE BONNY over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of OUR ULTIMATE BONNY revealed the mare to be suffering an injury to the left eye. Trainer Benjamin Swan was questioned regarding this occurrence where after taking initial evidence from Mr Swan, Mr Zac Steenhuis, the previous trainer of OUR ULTIMATE BONNY and Dr Justus, the officiating veterinarian, this matter was adjourned to allow Stewards to consider the evidence that had been tendered. Mr Swan was issued a direction that OUR ULTIMATE BONNY is to undergo further veterinary care to the condition suffered to the left eye within 24 hours and he was advised OUR ULTIMATE BONNY would be stood down from racing until a clearance from a medical specialist. OUR ULTIMATE BONNY was treated by the officiating veterinarian prior to leaving the racecourse.
BENTLY BULLET – Over raced during the middle stages. A warning was issued. Driver Sean Grayling was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular his decision to allow BENTLY BULLET to progress forward and challenge the leader JOGALONG BLUE during the middle stages which resulted in the second quarter being recorded in a fast 27.5 seconds. Mr Grayling explained BENTLY BULLET had over raced badly at Goulburn on 30 December 2024 when caught without cover and previously had proven difficult to drive in similar circumstances. Mr Grayling added for this reason he allowed the gelding to progress forward with the view of obtaining the lead, however when that didn’t occur, he was cautious not to restrain BENTLY BULLET too far as previously that had proven detrimental to the horse’s performance as evidenced in the Goulburn run on 30 December 2024 where the gelding finished in 9th and second last placing beaten 24 metres. Upon consideration of the matter, mindful of the short distance in which BENTLY BULLET was beaten in this event (10.1 metres), Stewards took the matter no further, however advised Mr Grayling a warning would be placed on the record of BENTLY BULLET and a repetition may see more severe action taken.
