TIMELY SOVEREIGN – A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having competed in excess of 200 race starts.  No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination.  Raced three wide in the early stages until obtaining the position outside of the leader passing the 1700 metres.  Prior to the declaration of all clear driver L Green advised Stewards that he wished to review the run to the finish in relation to TIMELY SOVEREIGN being taken up the track when improving to the outside of MADAZALWAYS.  After reviewing the vision driver L Green lodged an objection against MADAZALWAYS with the grounds of objection being that in the home straight on the final occasion he was carried wider as a result of MADAZALWAYS shifting up the track.  After considering the evidence of driver L Green (TIMELY SOVEREIGN), K Bigeni (MADAZALWAYS) and driver’s representative for K Bigeni (J Conolly) Stewards determined that although MADAZALWAYS had shifted up the track and had hindered the running of TIMELY SOVEREIGN in the run to the finish Stewards were not satisfied to the requisite standard considering the close proximity to the finish line in which TIMELY SOVEREIGN had been checked by its driver that it would have finished forward of MADAZALWAYS and as a result dismissed the protest and the all clear was given on the judges numbers of 2, 4, 3 and 7.
