RACE 1 – STU VALENTINE BLOODSTOCK INSURANCE PACE – 2260 metres

RUSTY DANCER – Pre-race blood sample.  Driver Jett Turnbull pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that shortly after straightening he permitted RUSTY DANCER to shift out resulting in contact being made to BAM BAM BROOK approaching the 150 metres and that runner being checked and pacing roughly as a consequence.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the HRNSW Penalty Guidelines, placing particular weight on Mr Turnbull’s guilty plea, his exceptionally good driving record which detailed no prior suspensions under this rule in his previous 1,048 drives.  Stewards accordingly imposed a 7 day suspension of his licence to drive in races which was ordered to commence at midnight on 16 February 2025.

ABSOLUTE WEAPON – Trainer Kelvin Winnell was fined $50 under Rule 268A(1) for failing to have the mare’s gear recorded.  Slow to begin.  Hung in approaching the first turn.

BELLAGANOOSH – Locked wheels with TULHURST PEBBLES passing the 400 metres.

LAUREN LINO – Out of position at the start and a warning was issued.  Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten in excess of 87 meters.  A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed LAUREN LINO to be displaying lameness in the hind quarters.  LAUREN LINO will now be stood down from racing until a veterinary clearance is tendered.

SCARLET BLING – Broke during the early stages of the score up and again shortly after the start was affected resulting in in TULHURST PEBBLES, TRUE LOGIC and FLIRTS DIVA being inconvenienced.  A warning was placed on the record of SCARLET BLING.

TRUE LOGIC – Inconvenienced after the start when SCARLET BLING broke gait.

FLIRTS DIVA – Inconvenienced after the start when SCARLET BLING broke gait.

RACE 4 – THE NUTRIEN BATHURST GOLD CROWN YEARLING SALE 30TH MARCH PACE – 1730 metres

SHAUN SHANNON – Over raced during the middle stages and shifted out against the efforts of its driver approaching the 900 metres resulting in MISTERFOURTHOUSAND being checked and forced wider.  SHAUN SHANNON will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.  A post-race veterinary examination of SHAUN SHANNON revealed the gelding to be displaying a slightly delayed recovery.

HOOKED ON WINNING NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

MISTERFOURTHOUSAND – Inconvenienced and checked passing the 800 metres when SHAUN SHANNON shifted out.  Checked passing the 300 metres when held up behind SHAUN SHANNON which commenced to give ground.

CHELSEAS GIRL – Trainer/driver Peter Wood was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare in particular the reasons for CHELSEAS GIRL being positioned three wide without cover throughout.  Mr Wood explained he endeavoured to obtain a position ahead of HOOKED ON WINNING NZ approaching the 1400 metres, however was unsuccessful in doing so and when caught three wide he had the intention of obtaining the position outside the leader however CHELSEAS GIRL did not improve forward as expected and as a consequence the mare was caught three wide thereafter.  Upon consideration of the matter Stewards advised Mr Wood that in the circumstances he would have been better served in restraining CHELSEAS GIRL to obtain a position with cover at the rear of the field as opposed to remaining three wide throughout and he was issued a reprimand under Rule 149(2) for driving in a manner which in the opinion of the Stewards was unacceptable and advised that a repetition may see more severe action taken.  A post-race veterinary examination of CHELSEAS GIRL failed to reveal any significant findings.

RACE 5 – BUY COBBITTY EQUINE YEARLINGS PACE – 1730 metres

IDEAL DENNY – Pre-race blood sample.

SATELLITE SIMBA – Driver Justin Reynolds was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular his decision to improve three wide passing the 800 metres and apply pressure to the leaders ROCKNROLL RAMBO and DEEBO.  Mr Reynolds explained that given the speed of the event had been exceptionally slow during the second quarter (32.6 seconds) he felt that should he improve quickly he may be able to obtain a position ahead of DEEBO which was positioned outside the leader or alternatively ahead of the leader ROCKNROLL RAMBO however he was unsuccessful in doing so.  Mr Reynolds further added that in electing to improve three wide at that stage he was mindful that as DEEBO had progressed forward during the middle stages it resulted in SATELLITE SIMBA being shuffled back further in the field which he felt given the slow second quarter would make it increasingly difficult for SATELLITE SIMBA to make ground when wide as the race quickened over the final stages.  A post-race veterinary examination of SATELLITE SIMBA failed to reveal any significant findings.  Upon consideration of the explanation tendered by Mr Reynolds Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted in the circumstances were entirely unreasonable and took the matter no further.

GABBYS SPORTSTAR – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.

DEEBO – Hung in passing the 800 metres tightening ROCKNROLL RAMBO.

PYEKAKARIKI – Broke during the score up and a warning was issued.
