He said when left exposed SHE WHO DARES pulled very hard and was not suited to racing without cover. He said SHE WHO DARES continued to pull during the middle stages however when he attempted to improve approaching the 400 metres, the mare was unresponsive and weakened because of its tendency to over race.

IGNITE THE FIRE – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver L Sutton explained he drove with some urgency after the start as he had intended to lead, however SHE WHO DARES on his inside showed superior speed and he said because of this he attempted to take the position behind it rounding the turn after the start, however THE IRISH EAGLE improved to his inside which precluded him from joining the running line. He said after this he was unable to muster sufficient speed to go forward, was trapped wide on the track and obliged to restrain for some distance inside the 1100 metres, then assume a position at the rear of the field and after this IGNITE THE FIRE travelled relatively well. He stated that because of his rearward position he elected to seek runs on the inside and after obtaining a run rounding the home turn on the marker pegs he shifted out into clear running and the mare ran to the finish relatively well, however was disadvantaged by having to be restrained for so long in the middle stages.

He said that he intended to lead but was unable to cross and was left racing without cover and after this TRIPLE EMM over raced and would not settle. He said that in his opinion this was the reason the mare was unresponsive inside the 400m. Connections were advised a warning for poor performance would be placed on the mares racing record.
