RACE 2 – YIRRIBEE PACING STUD LADYSHIP PACE – 1740 metres
CRIMSON ROCK NZ – Hung-out during the score-up and was out of position at the start, for which a warning was issued.
OZZIE GEM – Pre-race swab sampled. Hung-out near the 800 metres, and was inclined to hang-out racing down the back straight on the final occasion. Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight. Stewards questioned Driver R Sanderson regarding the tactics adopted with the filly in particular him electing to shift out from behind the leader LUVTOO rounding the home turn, which resulted in him being held up in the home straight, when there appeared to be an opportunity to stay behind that runner and obtain a clear run in the sprint lane. R Sanderson stated that he had initially been happy to take cover behind LUVTOO when it improved to his outside approaching the 1000 metres as he was mindful of his runner being first up from a spell. He added that his filly hung-out racing down the back straight when following that runner and he was not confident that he would be able to get it to go down into the sprint lane when it became available, given the way it was inclined to get up the track. He further added with that in mind when SHE HAUNTS THEM which was racing outside LUVTOO got an advantage over that runner leaving the 400 metres, he felt it was going to be the better runner to follow so allowed his runner to shift out to follow it, as he was of the belief that it was going to get past it and he would be able to then get clear running ahead of LUVTOO. R Sanderson added that did not eventuate however as LUVTOO kicked back in the straight resulting in his runner being held up behind those two runners. Stewards were of the view that his actions at the time were not unreasonable given the circumstances and subsequently took no action against him.
SHE HAUNTS EM – Post-race swab sampled.
