RACE 1 – WOODLANDS STUD – WE SHUTTLE THE BEST STALLIONS PACE (HEAT 1) – 1609 metres

ISLAND BOUHINIA – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

NO HEART THROB NZ – The murphy blind attached to the off side of the gelding became dislodged passing the 150 metres.

VINKE B NZ – Driver Jim Douglass reported to Stewards at the completion of the event that he dropped his whip passing the 250 metres.

DAN FERNANDO NZ – Examined prior to and following the running of this event as the gelding has competed in excess of 200 race starts.  The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Broke stride during the early part of the score up and as a result was out of position at the start and took no competitive part in the event.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

FRANCO TYSON – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 2 – BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE (HEAT 2) – 1609 metres

DIAMOND ECLIPSE – Pre-race blood sample.

SUPA AMERICAN – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1200 metres.  Hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.

SWEETHEART BART – Pre-race blood sample. 

RACE 3 – BUBBA GUMP PEST CONTROL PACE (HEAT 3) – 1609 metres

KAYSANS ROCK NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Stewards questioned driver Will Rixon with regards to the tactics he adopted throughout the middle half of the event in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in ninth placing beaten 18 metres.  Mr Rixon advised Stewards that he had been provided no pre-race instructions by trainer Jason Grimson however felt the gelding had trialled good when leading and that was his intention this evening.  Mr Rixon further advised that in his opinion the gelding was a touch disappointing albeit raced a little keenly through the middle stages when WATCHMEDAZZLE was over racing to its outside.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Rixon, Stewards determined to note his comments.

SMALTESE – Broke stride during the early stages of the score up.  After considering the recent record of the horse, a warning was issued.  Hung in passing the 600 metres.  Inconvenienced passing the 250 metres when looking to improve to the outside of APPLIED NZ when SCARED STIFF NZ was looking to improve into the same run.

APPLIED NZ – Hung out under pressure upon entry to the home straight and again over the latter stages.

SCARED STIFF NZ – Held up in the early stages of the home straight and inconvenienced passing the 250 metres when looking to improve to the outside of APPLIED NZ when SMALTESE looked to improve into the same run.

TIMMY RICTOR – Pre-race blood sample.  Examined prior to and following the running of this event as the horse had not competed in the previous 12 months.  The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Post-race swab sample.

WATCHMEDAZZLE – Stewards questioned Jett Turnbull with regards to the tactics he adopted throughout the early stages of the event in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which gave ground to finish in tenth placing beaten 40 metres.  Mr Turnbull advised Stewards that it was his intention to restrain the gelding in the early stages of the event however the gelding was having its first run since October and was very fresh. Mr Turnbull further explained that the gelding began better than the runners to his inside and he was unable to restrain the gelding and elected to improve forward hoping to find the lead of the event and then surrender to obtain cover.  Mr Turnbull explained that the gelding over raced when unable to find cover.  Mr Turnbull further advised that the stable would have preferred to have raced the gelding in the Western Districts however there were no races available in that grade and therefore was forced to race in the higher grade at Menangle first up from a spell.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Turnbull, Stewards determined to note his comments however a warning was placed on the gelding as a result of its racing manners.

RACE 4 – CHARLIE FURNIA MEMORIAL – 1609 metres

PROMISING – Slow to begin.

DOUBLE ACT – Stewards delayed the announcement of All Clear with regards to DOUBLE ACT breaking stride during the middle stages of the score up.  After reviewing the available films and speaking with driver David Morris it was established that DOUBLE ACT came up to the mobile barrier very keen, made contact with the barrier arm and broke stride.  As a result the All Clear was given on the judges numbers.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

MIKI PINS NZ – Stewards questioned driver Jack Callaghan with regards to the performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in eighth placing beaten 16 metres.  Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that the race was never run to suit the gelding which was caught racing outside the leader in an extremely fast run event.  Mr Callaghan further advised that the gelding never travelled at any stage as a result of the fast pace.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Callaghan, Stewards determined to note his comments.

MONTALBANO – Pre-race blood sample.  Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.  Post-race swab sample.

SMOOTH BUZZ – Inconvenienced upon entry to the first turn when CURLY JAMES was shifted down the track.

CURLY JAMES – Pre-race blood sample.  Driver David Moran was reprimanded under Rule 1682(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that he shifted the gelding down the track upon entry to the first turn when not sufficiently clear of SMOOTH BUZZ causing that runner to be inconvenienced. 

RACE 5 – CLUB MENANGLE GO GIRLFRIEND FINAL – 1609 metes

JACQUELINE ROSE NZ – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 100 metres. Driver Klayton Bigeni, was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that he shifted his runner wider passing the 100 metres when not sufficiently clear of ALWAYSBMINNIE, causing both ALWAYSBMINNIE and OUR DANCE MONKEY to be inconvenienced.

OZZIE JOYBELL – Broke stride during the middle stages of the score up and as a result was out of position at the start and took no competitive part in the event.  After considering the recent record of the mare, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

OUR DANCE MONKEY – Pre-race blood sample.  Inconvenienced passing the 100 metres when JACQUELINE ROSE NZ was shifted out looking to obtain clear running.

EYEKNOW – Sustained a flat near side sulky tyre soon after the start when being shifted down the track and contacting the off side fore leg of KIA ORA BEAUTY.

OCEANIC ART NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

BELLA DANZA – Driver Jack Callaghan reported to Stewards at the completion of the event that the number three carrying strap had broken on the near side.  Post-race swab sample.

ALWAYSBMINNIE – Inconvenienced passing the 100 metres when JACQUELINE ROSE NZ was shifted wider on the track looking to obtain clear running.

RACE 6 – TAB PACE – 1609 metres

COULONIA COURAGE – Withdrawn by Stewards acting on veterinary advice at 8.26pm after the gelding had displayed blood in its off side nostril when being removed from the walker.  A subsequent endoscopic examination revealed that no blood had been detected in the lungs and therefore no further action was taken against the gelding.

AMERICAN SPIRIT – Checked approaching the 200 metres when LOCHINVAR JAG was shifted wider on the track without sufficient clearance over ONE BIG SHEW causing that runner to be checked and raced roughly.

LOCHINVAR JAG – Pre-race blood sample.  Held up in the early stages of the home straight.  Driver Jack Callaghan pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that approaching the 200 metres he shifted his runner wider on the track when not sufficiently clear of ONE BIG SHEW and raced inside the line of that runner making contact to the near side hind leg of ONE BIG SHEW causing that runner to be checked and race roughly, further checking AMERICAN SPIRIT, LINE UP NZ and JAY OK with LINE UP NZ breaking stride as a result of the incident.  After considering the recent record of Mr Callaghan, his licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of seven days to commence at midnight on 14 March 2025. 

ONE BIG SHEW – Checked and raced roughly approaching the 200 metres when LOCHINVAR JAG was shifted wider on the track and raced inside the line of ONE BIG SHEW and made contact with the gelding’s near side hind leg.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a small laceration near side fetlock, however no lameness was detected. 

ROYAL CRUISER – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.  Post-race swab sample.

MAJOR PERRY NZ – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 50 metres.

LINE UP NZ – Checked and broke approaching the 200 metres when LOCHINVAR JAG was shifted wider on the track looking to obtain clear running and raced inside the line of ONE BIG SHEW causing that runner to be checked and race roughly.

JAY OK – Checked approaching the 200 metres when LOCHINVAR JAG was shifted wider on the track looking to obtain clear running and raced inside the line of ONE BIG SHEW causing that runner to be checked and race roughly.

RACE 7 – CORDINA FOOD CO PACE – 1609 metres

SUGAR PIE HONEY – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.  Post-race swab sample.

HEEZA MALTEEZA – Stewards questioned driver Bailey McDonough with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early stages of the home straight which resulted in the gelding being held up until the 75 metres.  Mr McDonough advised Stewards that the gelding commenced to hang out passing the 400 metres and upon entry to the home straight and he was unable steer the gelding down the track at that stage of the event to obtain the run that developed to the inside of the leader SUGAR PIE HONEY prior to SET UP establishing running to his inside.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr McDonough, Stewards determined to note his comments, however the gelding was given its last chance to race truly as a result of its racing manners.

CAPTAIN MOORE – Pre-race blood sample.

SINALOA – Pre-race blood sample. 

DOUBLE IT HARRY – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 200 metres.

RACE 8 – HYLAND HARNESS GEAR TROTTERS MOBILE – 2300 metres

PROHIBITED LOVE – Broke stride free of interference passing the 500 metres and inconvenienced COURAGE STRIDE.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

SALUTE STRIDE NZ – Over raced through the early and middles stages of the event.  Gave ground sharply passing the 600 metres checking ALDEBARAN JENSEN and AFFAIRE DE COVER.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from one nostril and acting in accordance with Rule 101B(2) the gelding was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.

ALDEBARAN JENSEN – Checked passing the 600 metres when SALUTE STRIDE NZ commenced to give ground.

AFFAIRE DE COVER – Checked passing the 600 metres when SALUTE STRIDE NZ commenced to give ground.

HANOVER DA MOON NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

COURAGE STRIDE – Inconvenienced passing the 500 metres when PROHIBITED LOVE broke stride.

SUNNY GEE – Pre-race blood sample.

SPEEDY LOVER – Driver Chris Geary was fined $100 under Rule 158(1) for failing to fulfill his engagement on the gelding.  Out of position at the start despite the efforts of driver Will Rixon.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, it will continue to be placed right outside the mobile barrier draw.
