HAS THE COURAGE – Driver Robert Morris was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular his reasons for allowing HAS THE COURAGE to progress 3 wide passing the 1200 metres after the gelding had broken gait passing the 1300 metres. Mr Morris explained that whilst HAS THE COURAGE had broken gait he did not feel the gelding had lost any significant ground and he felt the speed in the event at that point had slowed significantly. Mr Morris added that he had observed PRINCE OF PEACE, which was positioned leading the 2 wide line, was some distance back away from the leader which gave him the impression the position leading the 2 wide line would be easily attainable and should he progress sufficiently quick enough he may even be able to secure the lead as he may be able to catch the driver of the leader unaware of his forward movement. Mr Morris added that shortly after progressing 3 wide it became apparent he would not be securing the lead however he was able to obtain the position leading the 2 wide line. Mr Morris added however HAS THE COURAGE commenced to hang in and pace roughly passing the 500 metres and as a consequence lost ground resulting in PRINCE OF PEACE, which was following, making contact with his outside sulky wheel. Mr Morris further added that since HAS THE COURAGE had joined the care of KerryAnn Morris it had done the majority of its racing at Menangle which he feels better suits HAS THE COURAGE however he elected to contest tonight’s event as he felt it was a drop in class in comparison to the most recent events in which HAS THE COURAGE had been competing in which was a further consideration in allowing HAS THE COURAGE to progress  3 wide passing the 1200 metres. Upon consideration of all the circumstances Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted by Mr Morris in the circumstances were entirely unreasonable, however cautioned him regarding adopting similar tactics when a runner has broken gait and lost ground. A warning was placed on the record of HAS THE COURAGE for breaking passing the 1300 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of HAS THE COURAGE failed to reveal any significant findings.
