Mr Bloomfield advised he was satisfied with the overall performance considering the quick first quarter to maintain the lead. Mr Bloomfield added the gelding may be better suited driven with a cover going forward. Trainer John Thompson advised the gelding would be driven more conservatively going forward in similar circumstances.

Mr Micallef added OCEANIC ART NZ lacks any high speed.

RACE 7 – YIRRIBEE STUD PACE – 1740 metre

CORTEZ – ($6.00) Driver Scott Osmond was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 4th position beaten 10.5m after trailing the leader from the 1400m. Mr Osmond advised he was satisfied in the overall performance as the gelding has risen significantly in rating and racing stronger opposition.

DAY TWO – ($4.40) Driver Peter McRae was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding during the early stages of the event in particular in challenging for the lead with the first quarter being recorded in 27.7 seconds and the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 5th position beaten 12.9m after racing outside the leader throughout the event. Mr McRae advised he attempted to improve forward and challenge for the lead from the 1400m as he felt MY CRACKLING ROSIE which had obtained the lead was beginning to ease the pace and felt its driver was looking to obtain trail where he improved forward in a attempt be able to obtain the lead when challenging for it however it was apparent the lead was not available approaching the 1250m and he took immediate restraint of DAY TWO where the gelding commenced to over race thereafter. Mr McRae advised the gelding to be disappointing over the latter stages of the event however attributed the performance to gelding over racing during the middle stages. After viewing the available replays which confirmed the comments of Mr McRae stewards felt the tactics adopted were not unreasonable in the circumstances and noted his comments.

ALTA WILLIAM – Pre-race swab.

MY CRACKLING ROSIE – Post-race swab.

UNCLE JAY – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having attained the age of 12 years or olded. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

RAGING SEA – ($9.50) Pre-race swab. Driver Haylee Day was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding from the 650m and particularly if she gave consideration to direct the gelding three (3) wide at that point prior to the gelding being held up and failing to gain clear running for the entire length of the home straight to finish in 6th position beaten 7.6m. Ms Day advised she did not give consideration to direct the gelding wider at that point of the event as RAGING SEA had pulled hard for majority of the event which was evident  approaching the 800m where the gelding raced ungenerously and lost the back of IM ALRITE which it was following combined with the speed of the event increased dramatically passing the 800m with the third quarter recorded in 27.3 seconds which RAGING SEA was placed under pressure to hold its position and if she was to direct the gelding wide at  that point it would have been detrimental to her overall chances. Ms Day added she was unable to shift any wider approaching the 300m as all runners around her had gained an advantage over her runner, and she was never in a position to shift any runner wider. After viewing the available replays which verified Ms Day’s comments stewards took the matter no further and noted her explanation.

IM ALRITE – ($7.50) Driver Peter McRae was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 7th position beaten 14.9m after racing outside the leader from the 1600m. Mr McRae advised the gelding to be disappointing and could not offer any explanation for the performance other than the gelding hung inwards severely passing the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CLYMENUS NZ – ($2.70 Fav) Pre-race swab. Driver Harrison Ross was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particular his decision to improve four (4) wide from the 650m instead of trailing up behind MESSERATI which had commenced a three (3) wide run. Mr Ross explained that he commenced to improved three (3) wide at speed passing the 700m as he progressed to MESSERATI that runner was shifted wider which intern forced him four wide and did not want to lose his momentum continued with his run. Mr Ross explained he may have been better severed steadily improve forward instead of improving at speed when he commenced his initial movement. Stewards advised Mr Ross his drive lack judgement in not attempting to ease his runner & attempt to obtain a trail into the event instead of sustaining such a wide run such a distance from the finish and his expected to show greater judgement going forward.

SKITTLE BOMB NZ – ($5.00) Driver Blake Micallef was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 8th and last position beaten 21.3m. Mr Micallef advised the gelding was unable to improve into the event at any stage combined with the quick final half recorded in 56 seconds and racing over the longer distance.
