MONTANA NIGHTS – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver M Grima explained the gelding travelled relatively well in a covered position in the early stages, however when placed under pressure with a lap remaining MONTANA NIGHTS became unresponsive and weakened noticeably inside the 500 metres despite his efforts. RACE 4 – THREAD EFFECTS EMBROIDERY PACE – 1980 metres

FROZEN JEWEL – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver T Ison explained he had been instructed to lead, if possible, from the inside draw however he was obliged to make more use of the mare than intended to obtain that position. He said after resisting the challenge from FRONTLINER in the early stages FROZEN JEWEL travelled relatively well in the lead, however when placed under pressure passing the 550 metres responded moderately and could not improve from that point. He said the increased work in the early stages was detrimental to the mare’s chances and in his opinion, it would be better suited to races over a race of a shorter distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MY TWO EVES - Passed required pre- and post-race veterinary examination.

THE AFRICAN QUEEN – Trainer/Driver Mr T Ison was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(u), for easing the pace passing the 1200 metres in a manner which had the capacity to cause interference. When questioned in relation to the performance, Mr Ison explained that after being obliged to drive with vigour in the early stages to obtain the lead and cover more ground than envisaged in this endeavour, the mare weakened when placed under pressure inside the 500 metres. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MONELLINA – Hampered and had to be eased near the 1200 metres after racing onto the back of ELLIE RIPPIN.

MY ROCK MOVES – Pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver B Hughes explained that from his wide barrier was unable to go forward at the start and elected to restrain rounding the turn thereafter and obtain a position at the rear of the field. He said that during this time MY ROCK MOVES hung in, failed to travel comfortably and when shifted wider to improve passing the winning post with a lap remaining the gelding continued to hang in and responded only moderately. He said in his opinion MY ROCK MOVES would be better suited to an inside barrier draw and driven with some urgency in the early stages to obtain a forward position. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
