RACE 1 – J P TALTY MEMORIAL – 1609 metres

STILL ROLLIN NZ – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Leaving the 300 metres shifted out wheel to wheel with FRANCO TYSON and as STILL ROLLIN NZ gained an advantage on that runner it shifted out and bumped FRANCO TYSON causing that runner to race roughly.  Driver L Sutton was issued with a reprimand under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference.  Unable to secure clear running over the final 100 metres.

PROMISING – Out of position at the start.  A warning was issued.

DOUBLE FEAR – Post-race swab samples were obtained.

FRANCO TYSON – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Passing the 300 metres was bumped by STILL ROLLIN NZ which shifted out and subsequently raced roughly.

BETTOR KEPPEL – Out of position at the start.  Driver J Coney was fined the sum of $100 under rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain his position behind the mobile barrier until the start.

SUPA AMERICAN – Raced three wide in the early stages before working forward to the lead.  Driver J Turnbull was questioned regarding SUPA AMERICAN shifting out near the 150 metres. J Turnbull explained that the horse has a tendency to hang in and he was maintaining a straight course for the majority of the home straight by placing significant pressure on the offside reign.  Then, he became aware of the presence of DOUBLE FEAR to his inside near the 150 metres and was concerned that SUPA AMERICAN may lay in further therefore he made a distinctive move with his right arm to shift SUPA AMERICAN out to ensure this did not occur. SUPA AMERICAN responded and shifted out. Trainer J Grimson explained that SUPA AMERICAN is immature and has tractability issues.  He said the horse wears a relatively severe bit and has proven to be a difficult horse to drive.  After considering the available evidence, inclusive of the official films, it was established that irrespective of the movement of SUPA AMERICAN outwards near the 150 metres, there was sufficient room for DOUBLE FEAR to shift in and clear the wheel of SUPA AMERICAN and obtain an unimpeded run to the finish.  J Turnbull was advised that it appeared that his driving and handling of SUPA AMERICAN leading up to the 150 metres to prevent SUPA AMERICAN from shifting further down the track was effective and the horse was maintaining a straight line. Therefore, in the opinion of the Stewards, it was unnecessary for him to make such a significant movement that resulted in SUPA AMERICAN shifting out.  J Turnbull was reminded of his obligations to drive in a manner that is competitive and that ensures that his runner stays relatively straight in the run to the finish and obtains the best possible place in the field.

IDEAL MARQUESS – Slightly out of position at the start.  No direct action was taken

RACE 2 – BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE – 2300 metres
