OH NOVA LOVE NZ – Hampered passing the 450 metres when avoiding the galloping FAMILIAR TRICKS.
FAMILIAR TRICKS – Became unbalanced and galloped leaving the 500 metres for which a warning was issued. Stewards delayed the all clear of this event to determine whether FAMILIAR TRICKS had gained, maintained or lost ground whilst galloping from the 500 metres. After reviewing the vision Stewards were satisfied that FAMILIAR TRICKS had lost ground before regaining a trot passing the 350 metres and as a result no direct action was taken and the all clear was given on the judges numbers.
MACHO MAN – Checked and galloped passing the 350 metres when being taken wider avoiding the galloping FAMILIAR TRICKS.
CHIEF RUNNINGCLOUD – Pre-race blood sample. Hampered passing the 350 metres when avoiding the galloping FAMILIAR TRICKS.
PROHIBITED LOVE – Stewards questioned driver L Painting in relation to the tactics adopted in particular his decision to continue improving three wide until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 800 metres after being caught wide in the early stages. Mr Painting explained that after beginning fairly, he was of the opinion that MACHO MAN was going to shift to the marker pegs rounding the first turn and as a result elected to improve forward however when that did not eventuate he noted that CHIEF RUNNINGCLOUD appeared to be looking for cover and as a result he elected to improve forward during the second quarter which was only moderate in 30.3 seconds. As a result obtained the position outside of the leader passing the 800 metres. Mr Painting explained that in his opinion the gelding did not travel well between the 600 and 400 metres and felt that this may have contributed to the disappointing performance.

Stewards questioned driver C McDowell in relation to the performance of NICK OF TIME NZ when failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 20.3 metres and finished in last position. Mr McDowell explained that after he began well, he was looking to cross forward of MIKI BE GOOD however when that did not eventuate, after driving the gelding forward from the mobile, the gelding commenced to over race when positioned outside of the leader and felt that this had been detrimental to his runner’s performance over the concluding stages. Stewards noted his comments.
