Mr Turnbull explained he allowed TASBMIKI to improve forward 3 wide approaching the 1200 metres as he felt that ROSIE ROMANCE, which was positioned outside the leader, would surrender this position and it gave the indication it would do so as it was racing well back away from the leader NOSAER. Mr Turnbull added that upon improving to the outside of ROSIE ROMANCE that runner progressed forward and did not relinquish the desired position and noting the short distance left to travel at this point (900 metres) he elected to remain 3 wide as opposed to restraining to the rear of the field. Mr Turnbull further explained that approaching the 700 metres LEXYS ON SONG hung out resulting in TASBMIKI being inconvenienced at a vital stage and he felt that all the factors combined told on TASBMIKI over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of TASBMIKI failed to reveal any significant findings.
RACE 5 – BETTA PARKES PACE – 1660 metres
CALA GRECA – Driver Jason Turnbull was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in 10th and last placing beaten 34 metres ($95.50). Mr Turnbull explained CALA GRECA had previously performed best when able to lead and felt that should he continue to pressure RIVERINA FLASH he may have been able to secure the lead as previously that runner had surrendered the lead to CALA GRECA at Dubbo on the 10th November 2024 in similar circumstances. Mr Turnbull added that once it became apparent that RIVERINA FLASH was not surrendering the lead he desisted with his challenge.
