GENERAL – The photo finish system failed to operate for Races 1, 2, 3 and 4.  The placings obtained manually by the Judge were confirmed with the assistance of the video replay.

 

RACE 1 – T W ROOTS BUTCHER PACE – 1720 metres

The all clear of this event was delayed to confirm the official placings.  After taking evidence from the Judge and review of the available video replays, in the presence of the trainers of RAYS REDEMPTION, PLAYSOUTHERNLAND and DESIDERIO, it was determined that the placings of the event were 1st – 10 RAYS REDEMPTION, 2nd – 1 PLAYSOUTHERNLAND, 3rd 3 DESIDERIO and 4th 2 SKY CITY NZ.  As there was no objection raised the all clear was given.

SKY CITY NZ – Held up inside the final 200 metres.  Driver Zara Fitzpatrick was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular her decision to direct SKY CITY NZ to a position on the marker pegs passing the 1500 metres.  Ms Fitzpatrick explained that she had made use of SKY CITY NZ in challenging PLAYSOUTHERNLAND for the lead during the early stages and when unsuccessful she elected to obtain the position following that runner as she felt that PLAYSOUTHERNLAND would be a suitable runner to follow noting it had been a last start winner.  Ms Fitzpatrick added shortly after occupying the position following PLAYSOUTHERNLAND that runner surrendered the lead to DESIDERIO which resulted in SKY CITY NZ being relegated a position further back which made it difficult for her to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. 

DESIDERIO – Hung in passing the 1500 metres.

WOT DYA RECKON – Pre-race blood sample. 

ROCKNROLL GIG – Sustained a flat tyre passing the 800 metres when SNOW HUNTER which was over racing made contact with its sulky.

SNOW HUNTER – Over raced during the middle stages and contacted the sulky of ROCKNROLL GIG passing the 800 metres.

TAKE THE DEAL NZ – Tightened passing the 200 metres when RAYS REDEMPTION hung in.  Trainer KerryAnn Morris was fined $50 under Rule 268A(1) for failing to have the gelding’s gear recorded.

BETTINE – Held up inside the final 200 metres.

RAYS REDEMPTION – Hung in rounding the final turn tightening TAKE THE DEAL NZ.  Post-race swab sample.

 

RACE 2 – SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE – 2125 metres

MISTER QUIRK – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

ROCKETON – Driver Sebastian Piltz was questioned regarding the performance of ROCKETON which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in last placing.  Mr Piltz explained that ROCKETON had travelled well throughout the event, however proved most disappointing from the 500 metres.  Mr Piltz further added that connections had informed him post-race that they may now give ROCKETON a brief let up prior to racing again.  A post-race veterinary examination of ROCKETON failed to reveal any significant findings.  Given the performance ROCKETON will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion.

 

RACE 3 – HARNESS & HOOKS FISHING CLUB PACE – 1720 metres

The all clear of this event was delayed at the request of Will Rixon, driver of 3rd placed ROCKSIE ROCK, so as to enable him the opportunity to review the available video replays utilised to ascertain the gelding’s 3rd placing.  After taking evidence from the Judge and review of the available video footage, in the presence of Mr Rixon, the placings were determined to be 1st - 8 SCARLETT MAY NZ, 2nd - 1 THREE RIVERS NZ, 3rd - 2 ROCKSIE ROCK and 4th - 7 RIO DE JANEIRO BLUE NZ.  As there was no objection raised the all clear was given.

THREE RIVERS NZ – Driver Nathan Turnbull pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) in that inside the final 200 metres he applied the whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr Turnbull’s recent offence record and a $400 fine was imposed.

ROCKSIE ROCK – Pre-race blood sample. 

RIO DE JANEIRO BLUE NZ – Held up rounding the home turn in the early part of the straight.

SCARLETT MAY NZ – Broke during the score up and will now be placed on its last chance in the draw.  Post-race swab sample.

FREEASABYRD – Out of position at the start and a warning was issued.

 

RACE 4 – STURTY PACE – 2125 metres

RUM DELIGHT NZ – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.  Hung out passing the 600 metres resulting in WOODLEA BEAVER NZ being checked and pacing roughly.

STELLINA – Pre-race warm up.  Over raced during the middle stages.  Post-race swab sample.

BENTLY BULLET – Driver Zara Fitzpatrick was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in 10th position beaten 20 metres.  Ms Fitzpatrick explained that she was at a loss to provide any tangible explanation for the performance and added the gelding was most disappointing inside the final 800 metres.  Ms Fitzpatrick added that the gelding appeared to be normal in its action upon return to the stabling area and appeared to have pulled up well.

CLEMENTSORRELL – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.

LANI KAI BEACH – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding having started in more than 200 races.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.

WOODLEA BEAVER NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Checked and paced roughly passing the 600 metres when RUM DELIGHT NZ shifted out.

 

RACE 5 – COSTIS’ FRESH SEAFOOD PACE – 1720 metres

HES A MEISTER NZ – Over raced during the middle stages.

FAZE OF GLORY NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.  Claimed out of this event by Mrs Aleisha Gallagher.

PRINCE OF PEACE – Over raced during the middle stages.

BETTOR KEPPEL – Over raced during the middle stages. 

OURTREACHEROUS REIGN NZ – Held up rounding the home turn in the early part of the straight.

MAURLEN BOY – Post-race swab sample.

 

RACE 6 – TAB VENUE MODE – 1720 metres

OKAY GRINGO – Pre-race blood sample. 

ZEN MASTER – Trainers D & K McDowell were fined $50 under Rule 210 for the late declaration of Jake Bigeni as the driver of the horse.

LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE – Held up inside the final 20 metres.

RED SAPPHIRE – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

KATES VIRTUE – Held up rounding the home turn in the early part of the straight.

DOUBLE IT HARRY – Held up inside the final 200 metres.

 

RACE 7 – COPPS BOUTIQUE RACING STABLES PACE – 2125 metres

OURSURFINSAFARI – Pre-race blood sample. 

THE DEVILS FLAME – Post-race swab sample.

SUNSHINE KARAMEA

MIGHT AND VICTORY – Pre-race blood sample.  Driver Cameron Hart explained that passing the 1600 metres MIGHT AND VICTORY commenced to over race as VESPA STRIDE improved and as a consequence MIGHT AND VICTORY proved difficult to restrain and commenced to hang out resulting in MIGHT AND VICTORY being placed awkwardly on the sulky wheel of OURSURFINSAFARI, who he was following. Mr Hart added MIGHT AND VICTORY continued to shift out resulting in VESPA STRIDE being forced slightly wider.  In view of the circumstances Stewards took no direct action against Mr Hart, however placed a warning on the record of MIGHT AND VICTORY.

VESPA STRIDE – Forced marginally wider passing the 1500 metres.

MICHAEL CAINE NZ – Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.  Broke clear of interference entering the first turn and a warning was issued.

 

RACE 8 – AZZ-TRAIN PTY LTD PACE – 1720 metres

ADIRADIVA – Paced roughly shortly after the start before breaking passing the 1600 metres.  In view of the filly’s recent record ADIRADIVA will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.

ARE BEE TEE – Broke clear of interference entering the first turn and as the gelding was having its first race start it will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.

KAY JAY MIKI – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten 85.8 metres.  A post-race veterinary examination of KAY JAY MIKI failed to reveal any significant findings.  Connections were advised that KAY JAY MIKI would now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

FOX TROT – Paced roughly passing the 600 metres due to a gear malfunction.  No action was taken.

MISS ALOHA – Trainer Rickie Alchin was fined $50 under Rule 268A(1) for failing to have the filly’s gear recorded.

ROCK ASSET – Post-race swab sample.

CARPENTER – Pre-race blood sample.
