Driver J Turnbull was queried on the performance of the gelding which gave ground over the final 300 metres after leading the event to finish in 6th position beaten 16.6 metres. He stated he was disappointed in the performance although having to do some work to find the lead, when placed under pressure over the final 300 metres the gelding failed to respond as expected.
STUDLEIGH STARLITE – Driver O Frisby was issued a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when negotiating the first turn has shifted her runner down the track when insufficiently clear of YA RACIN ARLO and as a result that runner was tightened and lost its rightful running.

KARLOO DIDDY - Pre and post-race veterinary examination as the gelding has not raced since the 10th November 2024. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Driver P Betts was questioned on the gelding’s overall performance which tired noticeably over the final 800 metres to finish in 10th and last position beaten 108 metres. Miss Betts stated on pulling up the gelding appeared to be making an unusual breathing noise. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised the gelding would be required to requalify prior to racing. Connections advised they would consider the gelding’s racing future in the coming days.

OUR GEORGE BOSTON – Driver J Turnbull was questioned on the tactics adopted throughout the event when doing some work to obtain the lead from the second row barrier draw then elected to hold FASHION ICON ($1.55) out until OUR GEORGE BOSTON gave ground over the final 200 metres. He stated it was his intention to lead the event if possible and when challenged by FASHION ICON in the early stages of the race elected to hold that runner out and although the tempo was fast during the event he believed OUR GEORGE BOSTON was travelling comfortably and when placed under pressure over the final 500 metres although giving ground was more than happy with the overall performance. Considering Mr Turnbull’s evidence and viewing the available footage, Stewards believed the drive lacked judgement in not taking cover off FASHION ICON in the middle stages of the event considering the race being a longer distance than normal where he would have been able to give OUR GEORGE BOSTON some relief. Mr Turnbull was advised it would be expected of him to show greater judgement in future drives.
FASHION ICON – Pre-race blood sample. Racing under pressure passing the 200 metres hung in and contacted marker pegs. Post-race swab sample.
RACE 5 – WOODLANDS STUD RED OCHRE FILLIES AND MARES CLASSIC (LISTED CLASSIC) – 2120 metres

LIMOUSINE CHEEKY – Tired over the final 700 metres to finish in 10th and last position beaten 112.8 metres. Trainer/Driver M Formosa stated the mare to be outclassed in today’s event, also the tempo of the race being reason the mare tired considerably over the final 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Connections were advised the mare would be stood down for one requalifying trial.
CHARLIES ACE NZ - Pre and post-race veterinary examination as the mare has had over 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination. Checked between the 700 metres and 550 metres when LIMOUSINE CHEEKY was yielding ground.

ALFNALMA ($1.85 fav) - Driver J Turnbull was queried on the overall performance of the mare which raced three wide in the early stages to race outside the leader throughout the event until tiring over the final 300 metres to be beaten 67.3 metres. He stated after beginning from the second-row draw, he elected to work forward to attempt to obtain the lead where the mare has raced in previous starts and was of the belief SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ would surrender the lead as it had done in previous starts. When realising the lead was unavailable at the 1600 metres he elected to restrain the mare but she over raced when racing outside the lead which contributed to her tiring over the concluding stages. Stewards considered that he had erred, in that it appeared he may have been able to restrain ALFNALMA when racing outside the lead to gain some more respite instead of placing pressure on the leader with a fast tempo. It was concluded the drive not to be culpable enough to take action against his licence but was advised to drive in a manner that is of no concern to stewards. Connections were advised the mare would be stood down for one requalifying trial.

The all clear was delayed ascertaining if MARINE CREATURE had gained any advantage when racing inside the marker pegs around the 1100 metres and furthermore when racing inside marker pegs at the 250 metres after being checked. After taking evidence from Driver M Rue and viewing the available footage, Stewards concluded that when approaching the 1100 metres MARINE CREATURE was severely checked and directed to the inside of THE NEEDY QUEEN and TROUBLE IN ME who had broken stride and locked wheels for safety reasons, and as a result raced inside marker pegs. When returning to the racing surface he rejoined the race in advance of WINDFIELD BLUE as a result gaining an advantage over that runner. Furthermore, when approaching the 250 metres was again checked because of TROUBLE IN ME breaking stride and was directed to the inside of that runner due to safety reasons racing inside marker pegs and when returning to the racing surface Stewards were of the opinion, he gained an advantage over YARRAMAN TILLY at that stage of the race. Acting under rule 66(e) MARINE CREATURE was relegated from 3rd place to 5th place behind WINDFIELD BLUE and YARAMAN TILLY, and all clear was given on the judge’s numbers of 10 – 8 – 9 – 5.

THE NEEDY QUEEN – Checked at the 1150 metres as a result of the pace in the running line easing excessively. Furthermore, when approaching the 1100 metres was checked and broke stride after locking wheels with TROUBLE IN ME who had broke stride and shifted out. Approaching the 500 metres raced ungenerously and broke stride. The filly will be required to requalify on one occasion.
WINDFIELD BLUE – Approaching the 1100 metres was severely checked when shifting to the inside to avoid THE NEEDY QUEEN and TROUBLE IN ME who had locked wheels. Furthermore, the colt was inconvenienced at the 250 metres when shifting wider to avoid TROUBLE IN ME which had broke stride.
TROUBLE IN ME – Approaching the 1150 metres became unbalanced and broke stride shifting out and locking wheels with THE NEEDY QUEEN. Approaching the 250 metres became unbalanced and broke stride. Considering the colt’s recent record, it will be stood down for 14 days and must requalify on two occasions.
STRANGER EFFECT – Negotiating the first turn was checked and broke stride when trailing JACQULINES GIRL which broke stride. Leaving the 1100 metres was inconvenienced when shifting wider to avoid THE NEEDY QUEEN.
YARRAMAN TILLY – Driver J Reynolds was issued a reprimand under Rule 162(1)(u) in that leaving the 1200 metres when obtaining the position outside the lead eased the pace excessively causing interference to several runners trailing. Inconvenienced at the 250 metres when shifting wider to avoid TROUBLE IN ME who had broke stride.
