ATOMIC BLACK – Hung-out after the start and entering the first turn and rounding the turn near the 1400 metres. Driver T Potter was questioned regarding the way it raced and the below market expectations performance of the gelding, she stated usually the gelding hangs-in and was at a loss to explain why it hung-out like it did today. She added that she attempted to drive the gelding with cover today but it seemed to resent that and not race tractably in that position so she improved three wide mid-race to get to the position outside the leader, where it raced more genuinely, however that took a toll on it being able to finish the race off strongly in her view. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RUSTY MUDSHARK – Hung-in rounding the home turn and raced roughly momentarily as a result near the 200 metres, connections were advised it would be placed on its last chance to race truly. GLENTHORNE NZ – Driver L Painting was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that entering the first turn he shifted the gelding in when not sufficiently clear of SECURITY CHECK which was inconvenienced. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event while racing outside the leader, before giving ground over the concluding stages.

HES A TERROR – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Raced three wide without cover from after leaving the 1400 metres, working forward to outside GLENTHORNE NZ near the 1000 metres but was unable to cross that runner, which was over-racing, to get to the position outside the leader and was restrained to the rear of the field leaving the 800 metres.

In assessing penalty Stewards took into account R Strong’s guilty plea, his relatively good driving record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the incident. Driver R Strong had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days.
